  3. Abstract • Our team will design a tire pressure gauge designed to compete with the more affordable models currently on the market, in terms of both price and gauge accuracy. • Primary challenges of the project: • Sensitivity • Accuracy • Keeping prototype cost low

  4. Current Low-End Market Digital Tire Pressure Gauges - Monkey Grip - Accu-gage - Victor - Cost of each is approx $10

  5. Specs for Current Gauges psi = Pounds per Square Inch

  6. Technical Design Constraints

  7. Practical Design Constraints

  8. Objectives Design a reliable tire pressure gauge that • gives accurate readings (within .5 psi) • is consistent with its results • is easy to use • stands up to normal wear and tear • is weather resistant • consumes relatively little power • is low cost

  9. Advantages • Proper tire pressure: • Improves fuel mileage • Increases the life of the tire • Prevents dangerous conditions • Properly inflated tires promote optimal: • Braking • Steering • Traction

  10. Physical Model

  11. System Concept

  12. Pressure Sensor • ICSensors Model 1451 • +/- .25% error • Sensor output: 0-60 mV • The output voltage will depend on the pressure received.

  13. Schematic: Pressure Sensor PressureSensor

  14. Microcontroller • Motorola MC68HC908GR8 • Built-in 8-bit A/D converter • 4K FLASH memory • 8 MHz bus speed

  15. Schematic: Microcontroller Microcontroller

  16. LCD Screen • Luminex Inc. Model LCD-S301C31TR • Three digit display • Will show 0-99 psi in .5 psi increments

  17. Schematic: LCD Screen LCDScreen

  18. Power Supply • Lithium Coin Style • 3V • 620 mAH

  19. Schematic: Power Supply Power Supply

  20. Cost Breakdown

  21. Project Breakdown

  22. Future Work • Software development (gauge calibration, sensitivity tweaking) • Power efficiency adjustments • Further cost reduction • Packaging

  23. Summary • Our gauge will be accurate, easy to use, and affordable. • It will be built to outperform other low-cost gauges. • The gauge will have a lifespan competitive with any other gauge on the market.
