MFI Profile What is it? : Essentially a biography of an MFI that tells us who, what, when, where, and why about the MFI. Why?: A number of reasons, including highlighting our partners on our website. Things to Remember: A good biography brings together a number of different sources of information—the MFI’s mission statement; a quote or two from the CEO, field officer, client; last year’s financial statement; history; photographs; and anything else that tells the story of the MFI. Number of Pages: no longer than 1 page. Examples: Can circulate.
InterviewsWhat it is? Chance to hear views of someone in the sector on interesting issues or topics.Things to remember: Target a person with something interesting to say, and select interesting questions. Ask the person what they would like to discuss in advance, and show a list of possible questions you may ask so they can give better responses. Number of pages: Can be quite long before editing. If you begin with 10-15 questions and let the person answer freely, it can be from 10 to 15 pages. After editing for clarity and content, it can easily be 1/3 the length.

Case Study • What is a Case Study: Profile an organization / program • Success / Failures experiences or unique features • Document processes in detail • Problem – Solution approach • Usually 15-20 pages • Things to remember: • Leads to a discussion of organizational / program details – analyze problems described in the case and how it was solved • Do not include everything you know about the organization – Do not provide all the answers in the case • Define clearly what the case study is about – write out specific question • Create situations (factual or fictional) for readers to discuss Example: HBS Case Study on Basix – How to Sell Weather Insurance
Working Paper • What is a working paper? • Is a self-contained paper (most of the time), i.e., has research questions, body that reinforces/explains your research question, and conclusion • Can be both primary research or secondary • Anywhere from 20-50 pages depending on requirements • Typical structure: • Introduction containing a research question or a reason why readers should read this paper • Background • Literature review • Evidence to support your thesis • Analysis • Recommendations • Conclusions

CDS overloaded with work: From the interactions I had with the CDS chairpersons, they are loaded with too much of work. Housing is only one part of the whole Kudumbashree programme. CDS being the body engaged in all the activities tends to be overloaded with work. But they do not complain. They are volunteers and hence very happy to do work for their community. Banks too do not feel the burden of extra work due to this scheme because CDS personnel work on the behalf of them. It is easily noticeable that the reason why this scheme is doing well in some panchayats is because the CDS in that panchayat has been very supportive…
