The Sobering Statistics… • 14.3 million children in labor. • Only 72.7% of the formally enrolled attend schools. • Only 60% children from government schools in class VI to VIII can read simple passages. Impact! • Attendance at school has improved by 50% • School enrollment has gone up by 20% • Pass percentages at Rasoolpura Government school have gone up from 13% to 34% at the end of first year and 46% at the end of second year • 100% continuing education among children passing from 10th standard A BHUMI Initiative - 2008

Emerging Role Models @ Rasoolpura • Sunitha has stayed in school despite pressures from relatives and elder brothers to get her married. • She has secured 73% in 10th class board exams • She is now enrolled in 11th class in a private college • She consistently secures 90% in internal tests • It is her dream to become a software engineer • Renamma worked part time to help her family meet ends. Sai Kiran stayed through Std IX and Xth – despite difficulties in studies. • His father is a daily wage laborer on construction sites. • He is the first in his family to study this far. • He has secured 92% in 11th class board exams despite making transition from Telugu to English medium. • He dreams of being an Engineer. • Venkatesh used to serve tea at a small tea stall in the slum.   13. Mentors work in one-on-one relationship with government school children. Tutors teach Math, Physics, Biology and English to batches of 8 children Tutors/Mentors are trained by 50 Coaches to succeed in mentoring government school children Leadership facilitators from across the country anchor the training program and enable reflective learning across levels. Coaches undergo training of trainers conducted by leadership facilitators to train, facilitate and monitor interactions of mentors - mentees. www.bhumi.in A BHUMI Initiative - 2008 13

  15. Program Design • Day 1 to Day 3: Developing the Coaches. • Specific case studies and role plays which will develop the skills and attitudes and put coaches in touch with their being. A BHUMI Initiative - 2008

  16. Program Design Day 4 and 5: • Panel discussion on mentoring and servant leadership • We propose to invite great leaders such as Mr. A. P. J. Kalam, Mr. Narayan Murthy, Mr. Azim Premjee, etc. • 20 plus facilitators will work with 50 coaches to facilitate learning for 1200 mentors • Application of the learning in working with the coaches. Through some live instances of the challenges that they encounter and how to tackle them as they work with under-privileged children. • The objective is to make a fundamental shift in their world view which sees light even in darkness and gives them skills and tools to make that shift. • Day 5: Consolidation with the coaches • Taking a stock of what has emerged and how to take it ahead. “Alone we stand as dreamers. Having been in the field of awakening leadership for the last 12 years, Kiran includes a rich diversity of experience, insight and power in his work. ‘Leading to Light’ is an expression of his ability to synergistically draw together the best of facilitators and trainers, onto a common platform, in service of a social cause. • Dr. Pramod Tripathi Founder of ihealth (www.ihealth.co.in) a firm which facilitates an integrated approach to personal health and wellbeing. Armed with an MBBS, MBA, and Diplomas in Yoga and Ayurveda, Dr. Pramod has learnt from a variety of disciplines, including Siddha Samadhi Yoga, Reiki, NLP, and Vipassana. He has facilitated programs for over 75 corporates, including more than 7000 people, in the last 6 years. • Nithya Shanti (www.lovingsilence.org) After graduating from XLRI and working in the corporate world, Nithya Shanti chose to be a Buddhist monk for 6 years in the forest tradition of Therawada in Thailand. He brings a deep understanding of the nature of reality and profound meditation practice. His Hadayoli (Happiest day of your life) programs have deeply touched hundreds of people in India and abroad.   18. Sangeeta Bhagwat (www.soulspeakindia.com) Sangeeta is an author, healer and life coach. Well experienced with Emotional Freedom Techniques and other related modalities, Sangeeta specializes in helping leaders, trainers and facilitators, doctors, teachers and other such inspirers in actualizing their fullest potential.  Significant experience with coaching such catalysts of change has given her a specific understanding of challenges unique to their roles in personal life, career and society.  • A. Mujeeb Khan Founder of Bhumi (www.bhumi.in) and the prime mover behind this initiative. His intention is to positively transform and uplift the lives of tens of thousands of underprivileged children in the country. Our INVESTMENT in The Collective Dream TIME – 50,000 Hrs Each of us is a qualified professional with a cumulative experience of 24 years behind us, in a recessive job market we would be collectively worth Rs. 50 Lakhs per annum, we have been doing this for three full years MONEY – 24 Lakhs Supporting stipends of teachers, community mobilizers & field staff.
