  1. June 6, 2017 Prompt Air Conditioning Repair and Other Tips for Proper AC Unit Care and Maintenance Air conditioning units offer comfort especially during hot summer months. Like all other mechanical equipment though, it’s bound to suffer from wear and tear over time. You can only prolong its lifespan by staying on top of its regular maintenance needs and by making it a point to use the unit properly. Here are simple tips you can use to achieve this goal. 2. Pick a Good Location Good maintenance starts even before you turn the AC on for the first time. Where you place your air conditioner does matter. If you have central air conditioning you’d want to put it on the north side of the property so it is kept away from the heat of sunlight, thereby remaining cool. If the unit is located elsewhere, surround it with shrubs or trees which will provide shade. This should help keep the unit protected from the direct heat of the sun, so you avoid having the unit overheat from the outside. Leave the Thermostat Alone Most people have the tendency to adjust the thermostat frequently. Constant fidgeting with the controls only makes your unit work harder and increase the wear on the thermostat. The AC is designed to generate cool air on demand but it will take some time before it can cool a room to the temperature setting. So if you change the temperature setting from 79 to 72 degrees, don’t expect instant results. You have to wait for the machine to catch up to your new instruction. Clicking on the buttons fast won’t make the unit cool faster. It’s only going to work at one speed so you might as well exercise patience and give it time to do its job. Give the AC Some Down Time To avoid overworking your air conditioner especially during the peak summer season, set it at a higher temperature come nighttime as it tends to be cooler then, anyway. This means your AC will be getting some rest while you get your shuteye--and you get to save on energy consumption too. Most models also have sleep or timer mode which you can set to turn off at a particular time in the night and then just get it back to full working mode when you want it to. Get Regular Maintenance Service If you suspect there may be something wrong with your unit, don’t hesitate to call for air conditioning repair service. The sooner the problem is diagnosed, the sooner a solution can be found. Preventive checkups also help mitigate or resolve potential problems.
