  1. Visit the Sacred city of Amritsar

  2. The sacred city of Amritsar is situated in the state of Punjab. The city is of great religious significance for Sikhs and exhibits a unique culture of the Indian state. Its connection with the colonial times and finger licking cuisine makes Amritsar a must visit place in India. So pack your bags for a vibrant Punjabi experience!

  3. Places to see People of Amritsar are considered as great hosts. The city is situated on the border of India with Pakistan and thus exhibits a mixed culture of both the nations. The milieu of Amritsar is such that it would pull you back time and again to this place. Few must see places are: • Golden temple • Jallianwala Bagh • Wagah Border • Cuisine

  4. Golden temple The major inflow of tourists in this city is because of this holy shrine, often called as the Sri HarMandir Sahib. It is the most sacred shrine for the Sikhs and is protected with a golden dome. Unlike Hindu shrines, the Golden temple it is built on a lower level and has an artificial lake around it. A unique thing about Golden Temple is that it is visited by people from all religions. The Holy book of Sikhs, the AdiGranth resides inside the temple complex beneath a decorated canopy.

  5. Jallianwala Bagh The garden is a sad reminder to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place in 1919. The memorial built here commemorates the death of nearly 379 unarmed Indians at the hands of British under the command of General Reginald Dyer. Visiting this garden will make you realize about the colonial tragedy and give a sense of modern Indian history.

  6. Wagah Border It is located about 28 kms away from the main city. Wagah border provides flashback of the time when India and Pakistan were a unified state. The beating retreat and changing of guards takes place every evening, and is an exceptional event.

  7. Cuisine A great scholar has rightly said, “Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what’s for lunch.” It is true that your trip is incomplete until and unless you have relished the local cuisine of Amritsar. Even though, the food served here can be a bit too much for diet lovers but it is considered as a paradise for food lovers. Delicacies of Amritsar include the Kadah Prasad served in the Golden Temple, which is Halwa rich in pure ghee. Amritsar has great varieties for Non vegetarians like butter chicken, Keemanaan, Amritsari fish, Tandoori chicken, Magaz masala etc. Those with sweet tooth should not miss options like Phinni, GajarkaHalwa, Moong Dal kaHalwa, MalaiKulfi and Jalebi.
