  1. 23.05.2018 Semalt Expert Shares Methods Of Detecting And Avoiding Malware Malware is a coined term from two words "malicious" and "software." There are several reasons why anybody would ?nd a use for malware. Malware has the potential to crash computers or mobile devices, commit fraud, capture user speci?c data, or spy on users. The same way there are multiple malware programs is the same way that installing them can take different forms. Obviously, hackers do not require the user's consent to install the malware. The best way to combat malware is to prevent the attackers from installing the malware in the ?rst place. One can also follow a few steps to assess the system's condition if they ?nd out they already are victims. Jack Miller, one of the leading Semalt experts, takes a look at some useful tips to keep computers safe from malware. Update Computer Security Regularly A computer remains protected when a user installs anti-malware, antivirus programs, and sets up the ?rewall. All systems should have their settings con?gured to detect updates and patches automatically. Always remember to back up data as often as possible. https://rankexperience.com/articles/article1208.html 1/3

  2. 23.05.2018 Vigilance in Downloading and Installing New Software Once a user tries to install a new program on their device, they need to make sure that it comes from a trusted website. Also, when doing so, they should remember to set the security of the computer at high to identify any downloads not authorized by the owner. Keep Monitoring All Emails There are times when phishing emails take the form of a legitimate email. Never assume that since an email seems comes from a trusted site, that it is safe. All emails with an embedded email pose a risk to an individual's computer, and users should refrain from clicking on it. Also, the user should not download any attachments that come together with the email. Be Careful of Popup Windows Sometimes internet users may ?nd popups quite annoying. They are right to feel so because hackers sometimes use these popups to spread malware. There are several popup blockers from legitimate sites that users can use to prevent them where possible. However, if one is more reserved on downloading the popup blocker, or chooses not to, then they should not click on the links that appear on the popups. A good intention to reduce their frequency may cause more harm than good. Finally, one should stay clear of any software advertised through popups. A more common type of tactic used by hackers is to send pop-ups to users which announce that they have found malware on the computer. They then include a link that users can use to begin rectifying the problem. However, these links serve as a medium used to spread the malware. Is the System Already Infected? Look out for the following symptoms: The system is unusually slow, keeps crashing, and returns many error messages while fetching service requests. The number of popup ads increases signi?cantly. Mysterious toolbars and icons appearing out of nowhere The system does not bring back the expected site or homepage. Taking Action if Infected If malware has already infected the computer: Refrain from using the computer to deal with any ?nances. https://rankexperience.com/articles/article1208.html 2/3

  3. 23.05.2018 Assess the condition of the security software and whether it is up to date. Scan the computer for any malware and restart to put into effect any changes. Involve an IT professional if the system has any issues. Inform any other personnel that uses the computer as well on its status. https://rankexperience.com/articles/article1208.html 3/3
