  1. 23.05.2018 Semalt – How To Prevent Apps Being Infected By Malware The advent of the internet, smartphones, and the iOS, windows plus Android operating systems has enabled millions of smartphone users to access apps on the go. There are apps for news, sports, streaming videos and movies, diet, exercising and whatever else you have in mind. Unfortunately, like everything else, some apps are actually malware disguised. Despite the effort by Google, not all apps available for download and installation in Google Play are clean. As mentioned earlier, some have malware hidden. Malicious software (what's herein referred to as malware) is the technical term given to software used to steal data, disrupt your system and so forth. Andrew Dyhan, the Customer Success Manager of Semalt, ?gures out how to avoid downloading infected apps. Shocking updates Google recently revealed of complaints users were raising regarding some apps they downloaded. What did they have to say? Well, the users complained of having their systems in?ltrated by the malware, DressCode. It (DressCode) was embedded into games and skins (yes, those ?les that change the user interface of a device vis a vis app drawer, theme, and wallpaper). The bad guys (cyber criminals) used DressCode to launch an attack on your network's or organization's online services. In extreme cases, they disabled servers, databases and other malicious activities. What can you do to protect yourself? https://rankexperience.com/articles/article1239.html 1/2

  2. 23.05.2018 While you may not be in control of the content that ?nds itself on Google Play, there is something you can do to protect yourself from DressCode and other malicious software that may be embedded in skins or games. Of course, you may consider paying for apps. If this is the case, you can be assured of uncompromising security. If on the hand you opt to sample some free apps, skins or games on PlayStore then these tips should do: Tip 1: It doesn't hurt to check out the reviews and star rating given by users who have downloaded and installed the app. The developer can also release tweaks to debug any known vulnerabilities. Always go for apps that are rated above 4 stars. The better the rating, the better the app. Tip 2: Turn on an Android veri?cation feature. This feature is available on Android devices. It will constantly monitor how your device is running and warn you of any suspicious activity. Tip 3: Consider installing a mobile phone antivirus. There are a dozen veri?ed apps that have been cleared as credible, trustworthy and secure. If the worst happens, report to the technical team for assistance. Tip 4: Ensure that your iOS or Android device is set to get the latest updates (security updates) automatically. Tip 5: Report all suspicious apps, skins, games to Google Play support. You can reach them via their of?cial link or right at the play store homepage. Do not let any cyber security threat deny you the peace of mind. Somebody may be thinking of stealing your personal, ?nancial and credit card data for identity theft and for ?eecing you of your hard earned money. Do not let them. Stay safe by following the tips above. Enjoy the app world devoid of malicious software. https://rankexperience.com/articles/article1239.html 2/2
