  1. Portfolio Otilie Thrower

  2. My project is focusing on silhouettes from my own photos, reflecting memories and moments with my family and friends. Here I used a combination of techniques; water marbling, mono printing and quilting to create these outcomes.

  3. For these explorations I wanted to collage silhouettes together in two different and unique ways, connecting them with lines of thread illustrating their connections to myself.

  4. Using dry-point etching, embroidery and collage to develop my project focusing on portraiture and how to disrupt the image.

  5. Inspired by the work of Sue Hotchkis I began working with water marbling and creating fabrics showing abstract patterns and designs.

  6. I then went on to explore manipulating and distorting these pieces I had previously created through a mixture of other techniques such as collage and burning different materials such as tracing paper and acetate to give a textured effect.

  7. Drawings My main subject throughout my project has been my brother and helping him explore is gender. Here he can be seen in the dress I made for him when he first began to explore this side of himself.

  8. Etchings Overlapping etchings, both the same print in different colours or two different prints to create depth.

  9. Screen printing I screen printed onto both paper and fabric, then going onto working further into the fabric with embroidery.

  10. Dark Room Exploring negatives and inverting colours as well as using a paintbrush to brush on the developer.

  11. Photography portfolio pictures I chose to explore how black and white images can emphasise the texture and form.

  12. Photography portfolio pictures Focusing on light, shadow and depth of field.

  13. Ollie, Olivia and Oliver Exploring how a man portrays the three different sides of his personality.

  14. Shutter-speed I went to to experiment with shutter-speed and ambient light to create the effect of a ghost-like figure escaping his feminine appearance; this represents his more masculine side fighting against the feminine side with no post-production.

  15. Photography – Society’s views on masculinity I am now using street photography to explore the general publics views and opinions about modern masculinity by capturing reactions to a man wearing a dress in public and asking strangers to hold up a sign stating what masculinity means to them in the style of Gillian Wearing’s 1993 series.
