  1. Blog 2:Petersuchyjewelers.com Characteristics of Edwardian Jewelry Edwardian jewelry, or the jewelry– based on the time of King Edward has certain identifying features that set it apart from other antique jewelry. The Edwardian style was a curious blend of continuity from previous eras, and noticeable changes in the important features of the design Emphasis on the gemstones Edwardian jewelry emphasises on the gemstones’ and brings out the special characteristic of each gem, highlighting its pluses. The gems got special focus in the design of Edwardian jewelry, and the base metal including gold or platinum were used as mere carriers for the jewelry that is focused on the gemstone The preference for platinum While the Victorian era leaned heavily on yellow gold as the base metal for jewelry, the Edwardian times preferred the lightweight platinum. It was stronger than gold, and could be moulded better than gold to form nearly invisible threads in which the gemstones could be secured without seeming bulky. The dominance of diamonds The Edwardian period was a time of celebrating diamonds. At the turn of the century, diamonds were preferred more than pearls, but over time pearls got their due because of the presence of platinum as the base metal that outshone all other precious metals and highlighted the wonders of these two naturally occurring gemstones. Understated designs Edwardian times focused on getting the jewelry done with minimum interference and minimal designs. It is for this reason that diamonds and pearls were preferred for their quiet, understated and very subtle elegance. The matter was to simply show off the natural elegance of the gemstone. Peter Suchy jewelers are one of the most famous dealers of Edwardian jewelry including engagement rings, wedding rings, necklaces, bracelets etc.
