  1. Partaking of Others’ Sins Even without committing the same sin, we can share in the sins of others

Introduction • Common thinking today “I would not commit such a sin but if others do it that’s their business.” • Implication is, as long as we don’t commit these sins, there is no way we can share or partake of these sins of others • In relation to others’ sins, we try to be neutral to avoid offending others

  3. Introduction • But the Scriptures teach we must not only seek to avoid sinning ourselves but must avoid partaking of others’ sins • While each individual is accountable to the Lord, we also can be guilty of sharing, partaking, in others’ sins whether we actually commit the same sins or not • Some ways we partake in others’ sins

  4. Commit Same Sin With Others • Pro 1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent. • Pro 1:11 If they say, "Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us ambush the innocent without cause; • Pro 1:12 Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, Even whole, as those who go down to the pit;

Commit Same Sin With Others • Act 5:1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, • Act 5:2 and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife's full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles' feet. • Act 5:7 Now there elapsed an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.

Inadequate Rebuke • 1Co 5:1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife. • 1Co 5:2 You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst.

  18. Sinful Influence • 1Co 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."

Approving Corrupt Elders • 1Ti 5:17 The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. • 1Ti 5:18 For the Scripture says, "YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE HE IS THRESHING," and "The laborer is worthy of his wages."

  22. Approving Corrupt Elders • 1Ti 5:19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses. • 1Ti 5:20 Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning.

Approving Corrupt Elders • 1Ti 5:21 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality. • 1Ti 5:22 Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thereby share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin.

Approving Those Who Teach Error • 2Jn 1:9 Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. • 2Jn 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting;

Teaching Error That Encourages Others To Sin • Jer 23:14 "Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: The committing of adultery and walking in falsehood; And they strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one has turned back from his wickedness. All of them have become to Me like Sodom, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

Teaching Error That Encourages Others To Sin • Rev 2:14 'But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of immorality.
