  3. What is your house made of? A lot of people houses were made of bricks,wood,and cement.

  4. What Appliances Are in Your Home? • People have stoves,ovens,washers,dryers,microwaves,refrigerators,fireplaces,toilets,showers,bathtubs,sinks,freezers,computers,TV’s,items for cooking,vacuums,telephones,and light.

  5. How Many Families Live In Your House? • Everybody said one. • 1 person from Qatar said nannies, drivers,and cooks • 2 families said that they lived with extended families including grandparents, one from Qatar and the other from California.

  9. Chores in Belarus • Kids in Belarus get about $5 a week • chores depend on gender • It takes 30 to 60 minutes to do chores

  10. Chores in Texas • Don’t depend on gender • It takes 1 to 2 hours to do chores • Some kids do not get an allowance

  11. Chores in California • Do not depend on gender • It takes 30 to 60 minutes to do chores • Some kids get $5 a week for allowance

  12. Chores in Qatar • Chores do not depend on gender • Most kids do not have chores because they have maids • If they have chores they get about $10 a week • If they chores it takes them about an hour to do them

  15. Birthdays • In Qatar they usually have a birthday party. • The kind of gifts they get is electronics,clothes, jewelry. • They eat cake and ice cream

  16. Birthday In Texas they eat ice cream and cake. For presents they get ipods,gift cards,camera and bikes.

  21. *Clothes from Qatar* • How do clothes vary for different activities(What you wear to school, what you wear at home, or on the weekends)? • To school they wear uniforms unless they are in P.E. When they are at home they wear casual clothes. On the weekends they wear nice clothes. • Where do you buy your clothes and where were they made? • Most of them buy their clothes at markets and malls and they were made from all different countries including America. • How often and where do you wash your clothes? • Most of them wash their clothes every 2 days.They wash them in a laundry room or have a nanny wash them.

  22. ~Clothes from Belarus~ • How do clothes vary for different activities(What you wear to school, what you wear at home or on weekends?) • They wear school uniforms, and at home they wear stuff like jeans, t-shirts, shorts, and sweaters. (Depends on weather.) • Where do you buy your clothes and where are they made? • They buy them at the local supermarket and they are made in factories.

  24. *Clothes from Texas* • How do clothes vary for different activities? • They where uniforms to school and casual clothes at home and on weekends. • Where do you buy your clothes and where were they made? • They buy their clothes at stores such as: Gap and Target. They were mostly made in China. • How often and where do you wash your clothes? • Most of them wash them once a week. They wash their clothes in a washing machine.

  25. ~Clothes from CA~ • How do clothes vary for different activities? • They wear uniforms to school, light clothing for sports, and wetsuits for surfing. • Where do you buy your clothes and where were they made? • They buy their clothes at malls. They were made in China and Japan.

  27. *Clothes from Ohio* • How do clothes vary for different activities? • We wear casual clothes to school and comfortable clothes at home. We have uniforms for sports. • Where do you buy your clothes and where were they made? • We buy our clothes at the mall. They were made in various countries.

  28. *Clothes from Ohio* (Con.) • How often and where do you wash your clothes? • Every other day we wash them, and we wash them in a laundry room.

What people do on the weekend • Woodsfield, Ohio- play video games, ride skateboards, play sports and go to church. • Long beach, California- play sports, go to the movies, go to friend’s houses, and go to church. • Qatar Academy- ride four wheelers in the sand dunes, jet ski, shopping, go swimming, go bowling, and hang with friends. • Belarus- go fishing, care for animals, gather mushrooms, play with pets, and organize school parties. • Austin, Texas- watch TV, use the computer, eat, have sleepovers, go out on boats, and play sports.

  32. Who people spend their weekend with Most people, regardless of where they live, spend the weekend with their family and friends.

  33. Limits and Rules Woodsfield, OH- Bed time at either 10:00pm or 11:00pm.Can’t disobey parents. Long Beach, California- Bed time at either 10:30pm or 9:00pm, can’t disobey parents and can’t have lighters. Austin, Texas- Have to stay at a quiet limit and make sure things don’t get to dirty.Ex. Around the house. Qatar, Academy- Most people have no curfews on the week end. Belarus- They have to be home by 10:00pm and at 11:00pm on the holidays.

  35. Favorite Cultural Foods • Belarus- potatoes cooked in many ways • Qatar- Rice, Kabobs, Ayam Percia • Texas- Italian Spaghetti, Tex-Mex • Ohio- Pizza and Tacos • California- Tofu Miso Soup, or creeps, Kugel, French Fries, Ding Dongs,

  36. Eating Traditions • Qatar has to eat with their right hands, eat Muslim food, (They are Muslims), and they pray before eating. Some people in Ramadan have to eat when the sun sets, and cannot eat pork.

  37. Eating Traditions-Continued • California- They pray on Passover, Hanukah, Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. • Some people don’t have any traditions. They don’t have any requirements when preparing foods, except for eating it!  

  39. Eating Traditions- Continued • Ohio- In some people’s family’s, they sit around and talk. They get phone calls from family members, and friends. Some people pray too.

  40. Eating Traditions- Continued • Belarus- There main foods are potatoes, so they told us the many ways that they cook, bake, boil….. There potatoes. • You can fry them. Make potato soup, potato pancakes, and potato babka. There are also many other ways listed.

  41. Do you grow? Or do you buy? • Qatar- In Qatar they usually don’t raise there own food, they just pack up and take a trip to the local market. Of course, the kids don’t shop! They leave that for the parents!

  42. Do you grow? Or do you buy? • California- They don’t have many farms, as it is mostly hustle and bustle for them. They do grow some of there foods though, in there backyard gardens. But mostly they stick to the store.

  43. Do you grow? Or do you buy? • Texas- They aren’t really into the whole farming idea, just like us. They could hit the store, or go outside and pick some home-grown produce.

  44. Do you grow? Or do you buy? • Ohio- Finally, we have someone who raises most of there food! They raise corn, green beans, both on there own. They do buy potatoes.

  45. Do you grow? Or do you buy? • Belarus- People there have their small kitchen gardens, where they grow some vegetables; carrots, beats, onion, cucumbers, tomatoes, and potatoes, and many more.

  46. Whatwethink……. • Well, it is pretty basic for us. We grow or shop, like to eat just about anything that we can fit in our mouths. Well, one thing is for sure, and we’re positive that we speak for the whole class when we say- this was a fun experience, and food rocks!!!!     
