    1. How to Be a Good Friend Social Wellness

    3. Loyalty and Respect Your friend just told you a secret, but you think it would be great to share with someone you know Eventually, your friend will find out that you passed on information they asked you not to. They will probably less likely to tell you anything secret again. One BIG exception: If a friend tells you about thoughts of suicide.

    4. Stick Together It is important that you watch out for your friend at parties or any situation where alcohol is involved. Be responsible and take the keys. Don’t let them drive if they are past their limit.

    5. Learn to Listen It’s often hard to listen to someone’s story and not give your own input or personal experience. Keep in mind that sometimes a friend might just need to vent and needs someone to listen, not judge or give advice. If your advice is asked for, you can offer your opinion.

    6. Learn Forgiveness Your friend shared personal information you didn’t want publicized. Everyone messes up, so give your friend a little bit of slack. Put things in perspective: Is it better to fight and possibly end your friendship over it? Or could you let them know how you feel, and then let it go? If you messed up, wouldn’t you want the same courtesy?

    7. Remember to Give Some Space Sometimes your friend may need time alone or want to hang out with others. Recognize that this is normal and healthy. It allows for time and space to grow and become stronger friends.

    8. Keep Your Promises Friendships are based on reliability. If you’ve promised your friend you will do something, try your very best to keep your promise. Your friend will rely on you less if you become habitually flakey.

    9. Admit When You Are Wrong When you make a mistake, take responsibility and say you’re sorry. It is a sign of a good friendship when you can admit that you were wrong. It will help your relationship last longer if you both can own up to mistakes.

    10. Live By the Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
