  1. RENTERS - READY FOR WINTER BILLS? As tenants, there are several payments apart from rent that they have to pay at the end of the month or starting of the month, but sometimes it become impossible to make some payments. Electric bill is the major issue of which will consume a huge part of your payments. During summer usage of fans, air conditioners, etc. will raise the electric bill but during the winter it will make it double due to usage of old thermostat. Due to the falling temperature down the usage of thermostat will increase to manage the temperature inside the house, so there are some points which will help to reduce the electricity bill. 1.WEATHER STRIPPING & CRACKS If you can run your hand on the edges of the doors, cracks, etc. and feel the flowing of cold air inside the home during the cold day then you to tell & ask to fix the weather stripping by landlord, because cold air will make your cold round the clock and increase the usage of thermostat which will affect the electricity bill. Or if you are searching for new home for rent or home rental then you have to ask landlord about the thermostats. You should prefer the programmable thermostat, it will reduce the consumption of

  2. electricity & cost you down. Thermostat will use to make your home hotter during the peak days of winter season and you don’t want to allow the cold air reach inside your home, so you should ask to repair the damage doors, cracks, repairing of thermostat, replacing of weather stripping. 2.CLEANING OF AIR VENTS & HEATERS Due to non-usage of air vents, dirt will take place & heat air will not pass through the vents in the room, so you should tell these issues to the landlord. They will appoint a professional person to solve these issue to clear the air vents, and repair heater if needed. You do it yourself or hire any professionals because during the heavy winter you can save electricity bills. If you are doing it yourself you should aware that you need to wipe out and remove as much dust as possible, mainly from inside because dust are take place inside them. In most of the baseboard heaters will have the removable front, so you can take it off gently and clean it easily. If you have air vents with removable grates then you should easily remove it and clean it within the reach because dust and debris can slow down the air flow. 3.DIRECTION OF CEILING FANS As we know that the hot air is lighter and goes upward, whereas cold air is heavy and it goes down, so that you may run the ceiling fan on slow speed which will help to spread the hot air in all corners of the room. As a landlord, if your home for rent have ceiling fans with the feature of reversible direction of ceiling fans then you should tell to your tenants that in winters you may use this feature to make your room hotter. In most ceiling fans there is a switch that will reverse the direction of the blades and then the warm air will pressed down by ceiling fan, will keep your room warmer for long time & also reduce the usage of furnace or baseboard heater. 4.SEAL UNUSED ROOMS If there is any room which is unused or use rarely in your home then you should seal that room because you don’t want pay some extra from the vents for useless rooms. So it is better to seal that kind of rooms by using

  3. blankets or towel. You may cover the air vent by using towels or blankets. & may seal the door edges by towels, it may reduce the flow of warm air into the sealed rooms. 5.PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT If your home for rent comes programmable thermostat then you have to reprogram it according to your need. During winter season you may save the electricity while you are not at home or while you are sleeping through programmable thermostat. Normal thermostat cannot adjust itself you to do it manually but in programmable thermostat will adjust according to your need. In programmable thermostat you can adjust it according to you for example you can adjust the timing when to make home warm or when to leave it as it is. If you are not at home from 9 am to 5 pm the temperature will remain same according to the weather (cold), after 5pm you set the temperature warmer, after 5 pm programmable thermostat will start the make your home warmer and make you feel comfortable & consume vey less amount of electricity. But this not going to happen in normal thermostat because it is non-programmable, you have to change the temperature all time & it is consume lot of electricity which will raise your electricity bill. You should consider the above point which can helpful to save your money and reduce electricity bill. Because as a renters you have to manage lot of payments apart from rent and make your home warm too during the peak time winters. So the above points can help you to reduce electricity bill.
