Let's break down the steps you need to take to make your American academic dreams come true. Choose a School and Program 1 First, you need to choose a school and a program of study. Ensure the school is SEVP-certified (Student and Exchange Visitor Program). Obtain a Form I-20 2 Once accepted, the school will issue you a Form I-20, which you will need to apply for a student visa. Pay the SEVIS Fee 3 Before applying for a visa, you must pay the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) fee and obtain a receipt. Complete the DS-160 Form 4 Fill out the DS-160 form online, which is the nonimmigrant visa application form. Schedule and Attend a Visa Interview 5 Schedule a visa interview at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Be prepared to discuss your academic plans and demonstrate your ties to your home country.
