  1. 5 FUN WAYS TO STYLE A KURTI

  2. Kurtis and kurtas are a fun, comfortable and stylish dress to wear. They are a staple in every Indian woman’s closet. Most women wear kurtis and kurtas atop churidars, leggings or salwars. If you want to wear your kurta in a unique and personal way, consider the following five fun techniques to style your kurta :

  3. #1 Palazzos These are wide-legged wonders, widely regarded for the comfort they provide. The palazzo is variation inspired from the Pakistani sharara. Palazzos are full length pants that flare out from the waist. They can be worn with a number of different tops such as kurtis, kurtas, Western tops and crop tops. The best point about wearing a palazzo is that even though it is a contemporary clothing item, it pairs beautifully with more traditional forms of attire such as cotton or khadi kurtis, traditional Indian or embroidered kurtis, etc.

  4. #2 Wrap Around Pants Wrap around pants are a unique fashion twist on a long skirt and pants. These usually have an elastic waistband, sometimes with a drawstring waist. The waist portion looks like it was wrapped around, much like a wrap skirt. Wrap around pants fit loosely around the hips and thighs. They can be paired with a number of different tops such as cape kurtis, regular kurtis, short kurtis, etc. To add a Bohemian touch, consider wearing them with statement trinkets or jewellery.

  5. #3 Skirts Wearing a skirt produces a sassy silhouette. Skirts that are lengthy and flared look best with long kurtis. This combination creates an Indo-Western look that is suitable for many occasions such as birthdays, dinner parties, office parties, etc. To create a truly stylish look, try pairing an elaborately embellished kurti with a cotton silk skirt. Complete your Indo-Western look by wearing tribal jewellery. If you have a heavy set body, avoid wearing jhumkas. Chandelier earrings look best on lean figures.

  6. #4 Denim Jeans are ever-present in everyone’s closet. Blue jeans in particular are a favourite amongst people of all ages. Jeans are made from pure cotton and are available in many colors. Cropped or ankle length jeans in particular are well suited for kurtis. You can complete this look with ballerina bellies or flats. Add a touch of Indian charm by wrapping a scarf around the neck.

  7. #5 Jeggings Jeggings are a unique combination derived from two types of bottom wear: jeans and leggings. This trendy mash-up is a favourite with women of all ages. Jeggings have a pseudo pocket on either side of the pant leg including a false zip up section in the centre of the pant. It has a classic elastic waistband and lycra legs much like leggings. To wear jeggings, simply pull them up as you would a pair of leggings or tights. To create the most stylish look, wear a loose or boxy kurta atop your jeggings with a pair of sneakers.
