Field Study Project Jessica Rainey FND 511
Aux Sable Middle School • 1200 students • Various ethnicities • 6-8th grade • Students are arranged in teams. • Technology is not incorporated into classrooms because of the lack of budget.
Technology? What technology? • Students need a place outside of 6th grade computers that they can learn various programs. • My classroom is a computer lab, one of three, in the school. • There are 3 laptop carts available, however, teachers book them for months in advance.
Introducing . . . TECHNOLOGY CLUB!
Tech Club • We meet once a week after school. • The students choose what they want to learn more about each week. • The various topics that have been covered are Microsoft Word, Publisher & Excel. • We work on projects that the students could use in their every day lives along with projects that are useful for their parents to know how to use.
Tech Club . . . • Students enjoy changing the settings on computers and playing with new settings that they normally do not get to change. • It’s important that students understand what a computer can do because they are a huge part of their generation. • I found that some students were showing me skills that I didn’t even know they had.
Artifacts • Students working on Microsoft Movie Maker to create a video with pictures they took on vacation.

Reflection • Students have gained a wealth of opportunity. • Huge improvement in participation in my class because students are aware of the functions of the computer. • Students throughout the school are using the LRC computers more efficiently.
Reflection • I hope to see this group grow larger in numbers throughout the school year and into next year. • Students who do come to the group tell their friends, however, sports and other academics usually come before Tech club.
