  1. The Basics of Executive Coaching Many people may fail to realize it but executive development is one of the most critical aspects of all organizations. That said, this is also often the aspect that is most overlooked. At some point in a person’s career, they seek to coach for a variety of reasons. For instance, they could be stuck at a point where they are unable to determine what else to do in order for an organization to take a step forward to grow and develop. It could also be that they do not have anyone to confidently discuss with concerning interpersonal growth and development that could benefit the entire organization. That being said, it is only right to tap on executive coaching and address the issue. Business or executive coaching concentrates on helping executives grow, develop, and go from a point where they are currently stuck, towardsa point where they want themselves to be or perhaps where they want their organization or company to be. A Unique Perspective of Learning Regardless of the reason, executive coaching is rather distinct from other forms of coaching or training, as this type of coaching focuses on a specific way of learning for the executive. With this type of coaching, it is essential that the individual becomes more invested and involved in determining problems, identifying and applying solutions, and reviewing the outcome, so learning becomes more complete and is retained. In fact, business experts note that this type of self-improvement tends to generate learning that has a deeper understanding rather than learning that is simply taught. Executive Coaching versus Other Forms of Learning In order to put coaching into perspective, it is important to identify the differences between mentoring, counseling, consulting, and coaching. According to experts, counseling or therapy is a form of learning that goes in depth about various issues that typically deals with the past. On the other hand, consulting generally results in providing clients with answers to current issues. Coaching, however, is considered more action-oriented learning and it focuses more on both the present and the future. Coaching has its main focus set on what the client wants and it often utilizes a process, which often involves one-on-one coaching sessions. With each session, the client is enabled to discover, learn and determine the answers. In addition, it is the client who is tasked to determine their goals, commits to their goals, and achieve their goals, while allowing the coach to help hold them accountable. The Business Coach Given the right circumstances, a business coach, someone who is not tied to the organization or someone who does not have company influences, is needed. A business coach, who is considered an objective third party, can provide one-on-one interaction and focus that other kinds of organizational support cannot.

  2. A business coach provides executive coaching that helps develop the leader of an organization in real time within the context of the individual’s current job, while still allowing them to maintain their daily responsibilities. Business coaches are able to provide a confidential as well as a supportive confidant for their clients. They are able to ask questions, testexpectations, help provide clarity and provide resources that promote interpersonal growth and development of individuals at the executive level. They are also able to provide and interpret behavioral assessments and help the client achieve self- awareness and establish development goals. Hiring an Executive Coach – Is It Necessary? It cannot be denied that the business environment today has become more demanding. Consequently, executives tend to have limited opportunity to dedicate time as well as energy to their own growth and development as leaders. In fact, most executives struggle to realize and satisfy the responsibilities required of their positions and they are often too stressed and too busy to take a step back and learn from their experience. Also, they often fail to implement changes that satisfy and enable best management practices. The reason for opting for coaching actually reflects more than the need to resolve behavioral problems or poor work performance issues. Coaching is also necessary to develop executive-level skills and enhance developmental and growth needs that impact the entire organization. So, why should you hire an executive coach? An executive provides a non-bias view on ensuring the growth and development of individuals and can provide a whole new perspective on ensuring organization growth and development. In one study, it has been identified that there are a variety of reasons for opting to hire executive coaches. These reasons include the following: •To develop leadership skills of individuals of high potential •To improve the probabilities for newly promoted individuals to become successful •To develop management skills as well as leadership skills of individuals holding managerial positions •To correct behavioral problems and resolve issues at the management level •To aid the leaders resolve as well as prevent interpersonal conflicts among employees These reasons embrace both problems solving and developmental emphases. In fact, the reasons are considered change-oriented. With coaching, the skills and behavior of individuals at an executive level are supplemented and enhance, which will ultimately accelerate the learning curve for those high-potential individuals or those who have been recently promoted..
