  4. The ghazal genre does not concentrate on the questions of who or why, nor does it create limitations to the portrayal of the Beloved. What ghazals emphasize are the themes of love itself and the tribulations of the lover . The lover must endure in their unconditional admiration for the Beloved and quest for Union.   5. Sufi Qawwali songs are basically sang in Urdu and Punjabi almost equally divided between the two, although there are several songs in Brajbhasha and Persian. The poetry is essentially understood to be spiritual in its meaning and the main themes of these songs are love, devotion and longing. Riyaaz Qawwali incorporates works from poetic giants like Mirza Ghalib, Amir Khusrow, Bulleh Shah, Mir Taqi Mir, Sant Kabir and Guru Nanak, and in doing so, hopes to expose these poets’ works to new audiences and younger generations).

For the last twelve years, from their home in Austin, Texas, the band has toured to bring alive the joyous sounds of this South Asian music, played on harmonium, violin, tabla and handclaps, and sung in Urdu, Punjabi, Persian and Brajbhasha.
