A Good Time To Be a DBA I’ve seen a few articles lately that reminds us, that – in spite of the current economic, political, social changes happening at macro to micro level – it is a good time to be a Database Administrator, both now and in the future. Though database administrator skills missed to be the top 10 skills in 2013, it seems to marching ahead in 2016 due to the growing interest in big data (huge collection). Most of the organization are now diving deep to extract information from social media, websites so as to understand the customers inclination, which can be helpful in strategic planning and decision making in the business. Every day the growth trend observed related to data is in at around 3 quintillion bytes per day. On top of social media and unstructured data, we have created systems that generate huge amount of logging and audit process information. This no longer limits to the boundaries of IT industries. Because of IT automization taking place in the small-scale industry to a large-scale industry, the demand to handle the data is increasing. Data! The growing amount of data is just a consequence of the complex data systems which needs management as well as database administration skills coming up with new technologies and software options than rather increasing the complexity of IT systems. We cannot capture it all. For example, there is no computer/storage in the world that can record the processes that take place in the human body within 1 second. Estimates of the human brain’s memory capacity till 1,000 terabytes.
