  1. SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SMD GEARBOX Gearbox is a set of gears used to transfer energy from one rotating power source to another and can be found in automobiles, turbines, and heavy machinery. It is a mechanical device used to increase the output torque or to change the speed of the Motor.The gears inside of a gearbox can be any one of a number of types from bevel gears and spiral bevel gears to worm gears and others such as planetary gears.The gears are mounted on shafts, which are supported by and rotate via rolling element bearings. The Reduction Gearbox has teeth on the pinion and wheels that mesh with each other to transfer power from the driver shaft to reducer Speed. This Servo gearboxes are also called as Speed Reducer, Reduction Drive or torque multiplier. Few types of Speed Reducers behave like Gear trains between different components but inspite of complexity, the slow motion is possible because the input section has fewer number of teeth than the Output section, slowing the movement of the output gear increasing the torque and reduces the RPM, you can also use these gears to monitor the input velocity, Output Speed and Torque. A reducer gearbox is installed to achieve greater output torque but with lower input velocity to meet lower output speed requirement.   2. SELECTION CRITERIA FOR GEARBOX 1)SELECT THE GEARBOX TYPE BY APPLICATION. AUTOMOBILE– Automobile is a wide used of Planetary gearboxes (SNP Series) for assembly and lifting purpose because of high Torque and great precision. FOOD AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY– Hollow Rotary Gearbox (ST Series) is used in Indexing Table or Filler Table which is utilized in Beverage Filling Plant because of its precise rotation movement. In this application Planetary gearbox with flange end can also be used because of its compactness. STACKING AND STORAGE – A combination of Right Angle Gearbox ( SS Series) is used for lifting and Stacking operations depending on how precise the movement of the application is. ROBOTICS– Harmonic Gearbox (SCSG or SSHG) is used for precise reduction ratio which appropriate torque requirement. This Specification are required in robotic industry. Hence all the robotic Industry uses Harmonic Gearboxes at the joint of Robotic arms and wrist. 2)CHECKING TORQUE REQUIREMENT. Some applications for e.g. Lifting application require heavy torque. Therefore selection of proper Torque output is essential. Different Gearboxes have different Torque ranges selecting from this torque range helps the user to find appropriate size with nominal torque output for maximum efficiency and life. 3)CHECK REDUCTION RATIO BETWEEN INPUT TO OUTPUT SPEED. In selection process for the proper reduction ratio the designer has to calculate the Torque output corresponding to reduction ratio. A Reduction Ratio of 1:80 is defined as 80 rotation for input and a single rotation for Output. Reduction Ratio is calculated by dividing the number of teeth on the larger Gear by the number of teeth on a smaller gear. All the values of the Gearboxes are provided in the catalogue.One has to select properly according to the application needs.

  3. 4)CHECK THE CORRECT MOTOR DIMENSION. All the Servo Gearboxes get input from Servo motor. There are few parameters and aspect which are essential to match while installation of a motor and gearbox. Few parameters are Listed Below :- In the above motor diagram length of profile of LD represents :- Mounting of Motor where motor is connected to Input Mounting of Gearbox. øA – Represents the pitch circle Diamater. 4-M – Represents tapping hole. LR – Length of Output Shaft. øS- Diameter of frame Size. LE – Height of Step provided.
