Nari Shashktikaran in Gujarat: Women’s Empowerment Through Education and Skills Improving access to education and vocational skills is one of the most effective ways to empower women. In Gujarat, our Nari Shashktikaran (Women Empowerment) programs are helping women gain essential knowledge and skills to become more independent and economically active. These programs are currently being implemented in Ambaji, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Abu Road, and Ahmedabad. We follow a structured, result-oriented model that enables women to move from limited opportunity to meaningful participation in their local economies. The Importance of Education and Skills for Women In many parts of Gujarat, women have limited access to formal education, employment, or financial literacy. As a result, they remain economically and socially dependent. Our programs aim to close this gap through: Basic literacy and numeracy Vocational and job-readiness training Digital literacy Financial awareness and micro-entrepreneurship Legal and health education These components are designed to help women take informed decisions, earn a stable income, and support their families. Ambaji: Functional Literacy and Basic Vocational Training

Our work here focuses on: Adult education and literacy sessions Introduction to tailoring and home-based skills Financial literacy including how to open and use a bank account Participants are now managing basic household finances and starting to contribute to their family income through small- scale activities. Banaskantha: Skill-Based Support for Rural Women Banaskantha is an agricultural district where women assist in farming but lack direct income or business training. We provide: Training in animal care and dairy management Self-Help Group (SHG) formation and support Basic nutrition and hygiene awareness This support enables women to manage small businesses and participate in local microfinance structures. Mehsana: Education to Employment Transition In Mehsana, many young women have completed school but are unable to access further training or jobs. Our intervention includes: Computer basics and mobile phone use Spoken English and workplace communication
Guidance on setting up home-based or online businesses Many women are now running independent businesses or working part-time from home, using the digital skills they’ve learned. Abu Road: Integrating Education With Traditional Skills Abu Road’s tribal communities face low literacy rates and limited access to employment. Our approach includes: Literacy and numeracy for adult women Skill development in crafts like embroidery and bamboo work Market exposure through exhibitions and digital platforms This combination of training and market access helps tribal women earn a regular income while preserving their cultural identity. Ahmedabad: Vocational Training in Urban Low-Income Areas In Ahmedabad’s slums and resettlement areas, many women are unable to access regular employment. We offer: Tailoring, beauty services, and home-based food business training Legal awareness and domestic safety sessions Support for accessing identification and government schemes These programs help women become economically independent and aware of their rights and resources.
