The pride of Andhra Pradesh, the famous weave from the Nellore district of the state, the fine weaving of Venkatgiri sareesbackdates to the early 1700’s when these sarees were produced at an artisan cluster close to Nellore then known as ‘Kali Mili’. Patronized by the Velugoti Dynasty of Nellore, the weavers back then used to weave these sarees only for the royal families. Created using golden fine threads that render them a shimmering effect, lavish pallu and border that is embroidered intricately using golden thread is the most unique feature of Venkatgiri silk sarees.
