  1. Magic Grow Capsules A Scientific Investigation

  2. Ask a Question • Does the temperature of water affect how long it takes a Magic Grow® capsule and the toy to grow?

  3. Form a Hypothesis • A hypothesis is testable • Predict what will happen. • Use an If…Then statement • If you…..then…will happen.

  4. Design and Conduct the Experiment Materials: 3 Magic Grow capsules Ice Pot 3 Beakers Water Thermometers Hot Plate Bowls

  5. Observe and Record Data • Quantitative (numbers) • Qualitative (observations/words) Facts!!! Not opinions!!!

  6. Analyze Data • Create a graph • Use color pencils to color graph • Pencil to label graph

  7. Draw Conclusions • A conclusion is a written answer to the question. Sometimes the answer is “I don’t know.” • Whatever conclusion is drawn it is always, always supported by actual data from the experiment. An answer without evidence is meaningless.

  8. Restate the question and your hypothesis. • Explain whether or not the data supported your hypothesis. • Remember a hypothesis never right or wrong, just supported or not supported. You can learn as much when your hypothesis is not supported as you do when it is! • You must give actual data [evidence] from your experiment to back up what you say.
