  1. TOSS • The Toss sweep has become one of the most productive plays in our offense. • The toss play is with deep motion to the Halfback • Quick toss to the HB/Fullback may hit the flank even quicker than the Jet sweep. • The past two years we have run this play slightly more than the Jet. • The blocking scheme is exactly the same as the Jet sweep, but we add another blocker with the fullback leading. • By using the same blocking scheme we are able to run both the jet and the toss with minimal instruction to our offensive line. • The Halfback is also receiving the ball deeper than with the Jet sweep: better vision than with the Jet sweep.

  2. Can be run to both sides of the formation • To the split end side we can run a variety of different blocking schemes. • They are the same schemes we use with our option blocking perimeter. • 1. Crack 2. LOB Crack 3. Stalk

  3. 429 Toss vs. 4-3

  4. OFFENSIVE LINE BLOCKING SCHEMES • #3 Right Tackle • Block the B defender or the first player outside of B gap) • #1 when the tackle is the end man on the line of scrimmage. • This defender must align on or outside the offensive tackle to be counted. • The alignment of the B gap defender will determine the block technique utilized. • If the defender aligns on the outside shoulder we will execute a reach block. • If he is on or inside the tackle will drive block. • Remember we only block the defender that covers us down.

  5. Pulling Guard • Pulling guards technique is a little different than the Jet pull. • The guard must decide whether the defensive tackle is a threat to make the play on the Toss. • The defensive tackle can make the play if he penetrates. • If the Defensive tackle aligns on the offensive guard the guard will have a decision to make. • If the guard believes the defensive tackle is a penetrating up field player, he must not pull, but stay in to block the Tackle. • When the guard does pull he will find the halfbacks butt and read his block. • If the halfback kicks out his blocking assignment the guard will turn up looking inside for a scraping inside

  6. #2 Tight End • Block the #1 man in the count. • Tight Ends responsibility to determine who is #1 and to communicate this information to the halfbacks. • The number one man is the first player that aligns on you body or in C gap. • The tight end is always responsible for blocking the #1 defender. • Block this defender with the block that fits the defenders alignment.

  7. Wingback • The wingback aligns one foot outside the Tight End and one foot deep. • The wingbacks rule is to block the #2 defender outside the end man on the line of scrimmage. • The wingback will utilize the same techniques as the lineman when executing the reach block. • The wingback must take a lateral 6” step cross over to the crotch of the #2 defender and get the head to the outside.

  8. Fullback • Fullback – The fullback’s blocking assignment is similar to his option responsibility (wrap to the free safety). • Fullback becomes the extra man. We can account for the free safety running the alley. • The fullback will run for the outside foot of the halfback and wrap around the halfbacks block, eyeing the F/S or invert player.

  9. 421 Toss

  10. Blocking Rules • 2 – Reach LHB – Deep motion, Receive ball over offensive • 3 – Reach, Release tackle, Run down hill reading pulling Guard. • 4 – Pull Flat, Log, Kick FB – Run for the outside foot of the Tight End and • 5 – Release wrap to the safety like option. • 6 – Release RHB – Block #2, Block #1 on mutant call • 7 - Release QB -Reverse 180- and toss the ball to the halfback • 8 – Cutoff Boot away.

  11. 429 Toss vs. 4-3

  12. 429 Toss Crack

  13. To TE ( FB wraps to the F/S)

  14. Split End Crack

  15. No Motion Toss • Advantage • Secondary can not invert • Blocking schemes are the same • Best back the ball • FB can out run LB

  16. NM 629 Toss vs. 50

  17. NM 629

  18. Over 629 Toss

  19. 621 Toss

  20. Rocket / SE Advantages – • Don’t have to block the 5 technique • FB away can hold the LB • Get to 2nd level quicker • Split Flow and waggle solid friendly Disadvantage - • Can not account for F/S

  21. Rocket vs. Toss • The Rocket play creates some different conflicts • Split Flow Play • FB on the midline freezes the linebackers with the threat of the trap • The offense gets and extra men with the offensive tackle releasing outside the 5 technique • Running back receives the ball at or outside the offensive tackle

  22. 621 Rocket

  23. 621 Rocket Toss 5-2

  24. 621 Rocket vs. reduced 50 When the defensive reduces the front and keeps the strong safety (W) to the TE/Wing the quarterback will call the rocket to the split end side. Anytime the slot is uncovered we will crack the second level force player.

  25. Check with me With the rotation of the secondary away from the TE/Wing we have a 4 on 3 situations to the Tight End. The quarterback must read the defensive overload and run the weak side.

  26. Communication signals between the wide receiver and the slot back • We like to signal all crack blocks between the wide receiver and the slot • Force player(#2) aligns tight to the line of scrimmage = Crack • Hand signals • Slot must replace the wide receivers feet and attack the corner

  27. Crack Vs, off #2 vs. High Safety

  28. Rocket XB • When the defensive end is wide • Hard invert coverage • LB’s running out • Slots alignment allows you to make a great block

  29. 683 Rocket XB Technique

  30. Truck • Reverse off the Jet sweep. • The play is simply blocked like waggle run. • The difference is the end man on the LOS must decide whether he can reach block the tackle or not. • If the end man can reach #1 he will make a 6 call. A 6 call tells our Guard the EMOLOS is blocking #1

  31. 421 Truck

  32. VS. 5-2

  33. To Se • When the Truck is run to the split end side the Fullback must fill for the backside pulling guard on a 6 call. • Remember a 6 call by the end man on the line of scrimmage means he will reach #1. • The Truck can be run two ways. To the SE or to the TE side. • When run to either side we like to reach the end man of the LOS. • If there is a defender in the front side gap we cannot reach and we must block down and the guard will log. • To the SE side if the center cannot reach the gap defender we must block down.
