  2. Background • Many people are saying Performance Appraisals will be scrapped soon. • But appraisals have an important purpose – to evaluate employees on their work objectives. • This purpose cannot be scrapped. • Maybe, Appraisals will evolve !!!

  3. But … How will Appraisals evolve to be more acceptable to it’s naysayers. The evolution has to happen at 3 levels People Process Technology

  4. People • All change starts with people. • Employees & Managers that form the core of the process need to bring the change. • Managers need to be employee Coaches with a hand on the shoulder; guiding the employee to do better • Employees need to open up & look at Managers as the Senior in school and not someone to be servile towards • This will result in more interactions that are open & feedback based for the employee.

  5. Process • Once a year evaluation alone wont work. • Feedback orientation should increase frequency of interactions that are open & discussion based with plans for follow-ups. • The focus is to help employees develop & be better enabled to perform. • Ratings & scores need to be minimal as that implies a threat to employees. Discussions should not be quantitatively evaluated.

  6. Technology • Technology needs to evolve to support the changing needs of people & process. • Tools for feedback that aids easy capture of open ended discussions with follow up plans and reminders. • Analytics have a key role to provide actionable insights from the unstructured feedback data to help employees & Managers both take informed decisions.

  7. Conclusion • Change to evolve is the anticipated mantra for Appraisals – change across the 3 pillars of People, Process & Technology. • Check out how Infosys is evolving it’s People, Process & Technology to meet the needs of changing times - “Crowdsourcing feedback at Infosys"
