  1. What is Person Centred Counselling? Person-centred therapy, often called person-centred or client-centred counselling, is a humanistic strategy that focuses on how people view themselves consciously, as opposed to how a counsellor can understand their unconscious thoughts or ideas. One of the humanistic modalities or approaches is person-centred therapy. American psychologist Carl Rogers founded it in the 1940s because he thought that, under the appropriate circumstances, everyone might realise their full potential and become who they truly are, a process he called "self-actualization." Everyone has access to this natural actualization process. A more human approach to therapy in which your therapist provides you support to embark on a journey of self-discovery. It helps you in finding the answers to the questions. It focuses on maximising your capacity to solve problems on your own with the appropriate level of assistance. This person-centred counsellingis a great place to start if you're seeking a humanistic counselling approach that will assist your mental health. The person-centred therapist will provide the following to assist you in realising your potential: ●Unconditional positive regard (UPR)- This means welcoming and appreciating you. ●Congruence- Being truthful and open about how they see you and the world. ●Empathic understanding- Considering your point of view as if they were you. You will be encouraged to bring your difficulties to counselling sessions with a person-centred counsellor because the counselling is guided by you rather than the counsellor. Without any past counselling experience, many clients assume that the counsellor will solve their problems for them. A person-centred counsellor will assist you in examining your problems, emotions, thoughts, behaviours, and worldview so that you can grow more self-aware and independent. How does it work? In client-centred treatment, the therapist must concentrate on the needs of the patient. The person-centred therapist listens to the client and creates a supportive environment so that they can make decisions independently rather than delving deeply into the client's problems or attributing the client's current thoughts and behaviours to prior events. Additionally, it implies that the client will be fully accepted without any judgement from the person-centred therapist. This lack of judgement is referred to as "unconditional positive regard" in this discipline. Every organisation should place a high premium on promoting workforce well-being. The person-centred counselling therapist must comprehend how the world functions from the client's point of view to undertaking client-centred therapy. Therefore, if they have any doubts about something their client said, they may inquire further to get more information. Your therapist will assist you in recognising the resources and assistance that are available to you to work through your challenges, increase your self-confidence, and recognise that you always have options.

  2. Advantages of person-centred therapy Person-centred counselling may typically assist people of all ages with a variety of personal concerns. It allows users to maintain control over the subject matter and tempo of sessions, and there is no concern that they are being examined or judged in any way, which makes it appealing to many people. People who have a strong desire to examine themselves and their feelings as well as those who wish to address particular psychological habits or patterns of thinking are likely to benefit more from the non-direct approach of person-centred counselling. The method is considered to be very successful at assisting people in getting over specific issues like depression, anxiety, stress, and sorrow, among other mental health issues. Person-centred counsellingcan assist people in reconnecting with their inner selves to transcend any constraints. These issues can have a substantial impact on one's sense of self-worth, self-reliance, and self- awareness.
