These symptoms may be associated with clinical situations such as motion sickness, radiation sickness, postoperative recovery, drug-induced nausea and vomiting, Menière’s disease and other labyrinthine disturbances. Gravol is also used for amelioration of allergic reactions to blood or plasma, in anaphylaxis as an adjunct to epinephrine and other standard measures after the acute symptoms have been controlled, and for other uncomplicated allergic conditions of the immediate type. Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) Recommended Adult Dosage When using Gravol Tablets Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) to prevent motion sickness, the first dose should be taken half to one hour before starting activity. To prevent or treat motion sickness the dose for adults and children 12 years and over Take 1 to 2 tables every 4 to 6 hours. Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) Warnings Dimenhydrinate may impair the ability to perform hazardous activities requiring mental alertness or physical coordination such as operating machinery or driving a car. The concomitant use of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may have an additive effect and should be avoided. Gravol (Dimenhydrinate tablets) has substance abuse potential due to its hallucinogenic and euphoric effects. At higher doses, confusion, hallucinations, temporary amnesia and paranoia may occur. Chronic abuse of antihistamines can lead to drug interaction accidents, overdose, and in extreme cases to death. Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) Warnings Dimenhydrinate may mask the presence of underlying organic abnormalities or the toxic effects of certain antibiotics and other drugs, particularly those drugs causing ototoxicity. Use with caution in patients who are poor CYP2D6 metabolizers and in patients with thyroid dysfunction. Use with caution in patients with pyloroduodenal obstruction (including stenotic peptic ulcer). Gravol is contraindicated in patients with prostatic hyperplasia. Use with caution in patients with other genitourinary obstruction. Rarely, prolonged therapy with antihistaminic drugs can produce blood dyscrasia. Use with caution in patients with porphyria. Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment. Gravol is contraindicated in patients with increased intraocular pressure or narrow angle glaucoma. Dimenhydrinate may cause euphoria, hallucination, confusion,and paranoia at higher doses. Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) Warnings In rare cases, serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and erythema multiformhave been associated with the use of Dimenhydrinate. The use of Gravol (Dimenhydrinate tablets) by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant requires that the potential benefits be weighed against the potential hazards. Small amounts of Dimenhydrinate are excreted in breast milk. Because of the potential for adverse reactions in nursing infants from Dimenhydrinate, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the medication to the mother.   16. Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) Possible Side Effects The most common side effect of Dimenhydrinate (Gravol tablets) is drowsiness. Dizziness may also occur. Symptoms of dry mouth, nose and throat, blurred vision, difficult or painful urination, headache, anorexia, nervousness, restlessness or insomnia (especially in pediatric patients), skin rash, thickening of bronchial secretions, tachycardia, epigastric distress, lassitude, excitation, and nausea have been reported.   17. Gravol Tablets (Generic Dimenhydrinate Tablets) Overdosage Drowsiness is the usual clinical side effect. Convulsions, coma, and respiratory depression may occur with massive overdosage. No specific antidote is known. If respiratory depression occurs, mechanically assisted respiration should be initiated and oxygen should be administered. Convulsions should be treated with appropriate doses of diazepam. Phenobarbital (5 to 6 mg/kg) may be given to control convulsions in pediatric patients. The use of Dimenhydrinate (Gravol Tablets) by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant requires that the potential benefits be weighed against the potential hazards. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies with Dimenhydrinate in pregnant women. Reproduction studies in rats and rabbits using Dimenhydrinate doses up to 20 and 25 times the human dose (mg/kg), respectively, have not revealed evidence of harm to the fetus or impaired fertility.
