Vyfat Capsules (Generic Orlistat Capsules)

Vyfat (Generic Orlistat Capsules) is used along with a mildly hypocaloric diet for the treatment of obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) greater or equal to 30 kg/m, or overweight patients (BMI greater or equal to 28 kg/m) with associated risk factors. Treatment with Vyfat capsules should be stopped after 12 weeks if patients have been unable to lose at least 5 % of the body weight as measured at the start of therapy.

  6. Vyfat Capsules (Generic Orlistat Capsules) Uses of Vyfat 60 mg and 120 mg Capsules: Vyfat (Generic Orlistat Capsules) is a medication for chronic weight management. It is for people with overweight and weight-related complications or obesity. Vyfat capsules are indicated for obesity management including weight loss and weight maintenance when used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet. Vyfat is also used to reduce the risk for weight regain after prior weight loss. Vyfat is indicated for obese patients with an initial body mass index (BMI) greater or equal to 30 kg/m 2 or greater or equal to 27 kg/m 2 in the presence of other risk factors (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia). Vyfat Capsules (Generic Orlistat Capsules) Recommended Adult Dosage The dose of Vyfat Capsules Vyfat Capsules (Generic Orlistat Capsules) is one 120 mg capsule three times a day with each main meal containing fat (during or up to 1 hour after the meal). The patient should be on a nutritionally balanced, reduced- calorie diet that contains approximately 30% of calories from fat. The daily intake of fat, carbohydrate, and protein should be distributed over three main meals. If a meal is occasionally missed or contains no fat, the dose of Vyfat can be omitted. Vyfat Capsules (Generic Orlistat Capsules) Recommended Adult Dosage Because Vyfat has been shown to reduce the absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins and beta-carotene, patients should be counseled to take a multivitamin containing fat-soluble vitamins to ensure adequate nutrition. The vitamin supplement should be taken at least 2 hours before or after the administration of Vyfat, such as at bedtime. The 60 mg capsule is for weight loss in overweight adults, 18 years and older, when used along with a reduced-calorie and low-fat diet. Take 1 capsule of 60 mg with each meal containing fat. Do not take more than 3 capsules daily. Take a multivitamin supplement that contains fat-soluble vitamins to ensure adequate nutrition. Rare cases of severe liver injury with hepatocellular necrosis or acute hepatic failure have been reported. Patients may develop increased levels of urinary oxalate following treatment with Orlistat capsules. Monitor renal function in patients at risk for renal insufficiency. Exclude organic causes of obesity (eg, hypothyroidism) before prescribing Orlistat Capsules. Gastrointestinal events may increase when Vyfat capsules are taken with a diet high in fat (greater than 30% total daily calories from fat). Vyfat Capsules (Generic Orlistat Capsules) Possible Side Effects Side effects from placebo-controlled clinical trials that occurred at a frequency of 2% or greater among patients treated with Orlistat Capsules (Vyfat) 120 mg three times a day and with an incidence that was greater than placebo include Abdominal Pain/Discomfort, Nausea, Infectious Diarrhea, Rectal Pain/Discomfort, Tooth Disorder, Gingival Disorder, Vomiting, Influenza, Upper Respiratory Infection, Lower Respiratory Infection, Ear, Nose & Throat Symptoms, Back Pain, Pain Lower Extremities, Arthritis, Myalgia, Joint Disorder, Tendonitis, Headache, Dizziness, Fatigue, Sleep Disorder, Rash, Dry Skin, Menstrual Irregularity, Vaginitis, Urinary Tract Infection, Psychiatric Anxiety, Depression, Otitis and Pedal Edema. Vyfat Capsules (Generic Orlistat Capsules) Overdosage Single doses of 800 mg Orlistat Capsules (Vyfat) and multiple doses of up to 400 mg three times a day for 15 days have been studied in normal weight and obese subjects without significant adverse findings. Should a significant overdose of Orlistat occur, it is recommended that the patient be observed for 24 hours. Based on human and animal studies, systemic effects attributable to the lipase-inhibiting properties of Orlistat should be rapidly reversible. Orlistat (Vyfat capsules) is contraindicated during pregnancy, because weight loss offers no potential benefit to a pregnant woman and may result in fetal harm. A minimum weight gain, and no weight loss, is currently recommended for all pregnant women, including those who are already overweight or obese, due to the obligatory weight gain that occurs in maternal tissues during pregnancy.
