Effect of Steel Fibre Reinforcement on Early Strength of Concrete

Cement concrete is the most extensively used construction material in the world. The reason for its extensive use is that it provides good workability and can be moulded to any shape. Ordinary cement concrete possesses a very low tensile strength, limited ductility and little resistance to cracking, internal micro cracks, leading to brittle failure of concrete. In this modern age, civil engineering constructions have their own structural and durability requirements, every structure has its own intended purpose and hence to meet this purpose, modification in traditional cement concrete has become mandatory. It has been found that different type of fibers added in specific percentage to concrete improves the mechanical properties, durability and serviceability of the structure. It is now established that one of the important properties of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete SFRC is its superior resistance to cracking and crack propagation. In this study the effect of Steel fibers on early strength of concrete have been studied by varying the percentage of fibers in concrete. The Chemical admixture used in the concrete is CaCl2 Accelerator .Fibre content were varied by 0 , 0.50 , 0.75 , 1 , 1.5 and 2 by volume of concrete. Cubes of size 150mmX150mmX150mm to check the compressive strength, Cylinders of size 100mmx200m to check the split tensile strength and beams of size 500mmX100mmX100mm for checking flexural strength were casted. All the specimens were cured for the period of 3, 7 and 28 days before crushing. The results of Steel fiber reinforced concrete on early strength for 3days, 7days and 28days curing with varied percentage of fiber were studied and it has been found that there is significant strength improvement in Early Strength concrete. The optimum fiber content while studying the compressive strength, Split tensile strength and flexural strength is found to be 1.25 . Also, it has been observed that with the increase in fiber content up to the optimum value, the concrete gains maximum compressive strength at 28 days curing while split tensile and flexural performance shows maximum percentage increase in strength in first 3 days of curing. Slump cone test was adopted to measure the workability of concrete. The Slump cone test results revealed that workability gets reduced with the increase in fiber content. Experimental Study on Physical Properties of High Strength Concrete With and Without Horse Dung

Use of fibres is not new to the construction industry. But the way they are being used and its ever growing varieties have always made it a burning topic for the researchers. The principal reason to incorporate fibres into a cement matrix is to increase the compressive strength and to improve the soundness characteristics of the resultant composite. Previous studies related to the use of natural organic fibres in concrete have shown strength variation with respect to the various types of fibres and fibres content. In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to design a high strength Fibre Reinforced Concrete by proportioning the mix with moisture free pulverized natural organic fibres obtained from horse manure dung. 11 mixes were prepared separately to determine the characteristics and properties of freshly laid concrete. 33 cubes were casted for the determination of compressive strength and 12 beams were casted for the determination of flexural strength of concrete. Later study was carried out on this designed concrete mix by considering different parameters such as fibre content, proportioning of fine aggregates, time days and types of tests Destructive and Non Destructive test . Results of the study have shown that the performance of designed concrete mix with different mix proportions and different percentage of fibres as additive and replacement of fine aggregates are far more efficient and superior to the conventional mix. As the proportion of percentage of fibers is increased, the performance and strength of freshly mixed as well as of hardened concrete cubes gets improved. After increment in percentage of fibers in mixes, a stage comes where the quantity of fibers is well enough to affect the performance as well as strength of concrete cube. This research summarized the use of horse manure dung, a natural organic fibre by some percentage in the concrete mix to get favourable workability, compressive and flexural strength. Comparative Study on Effect of Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash on Strength of Concrete

The construction of concrete pavement is growing across the country due to its strength, durability, better serviceability and overall economy in long run. The need is to develop better quality pavement sections, which can bear heavy loads. This can be achieved by using high compressive strength concrete 40MPa made up of hydraulic cement having fine and course aggregates. In the work embodied construction work is done with the help of wastage from industry. Fly ash is a by product of burned coal from thermal plants and Rice husk ash is the by product of burned rice husk from paper plant. Considerably Fly ash and Rice husk ash are used as supplementary cementing materials to improve the properties of cement concrete. The present study is done to develop pavement quality concrete by partially replacement cement with Fly Ash and Rice Husk Ash. The aim of study is to compare the strength characterises of pavement concrete which as achieved by concrete mixtures. The work done in this study shows the effects on the behaviour of concrete produced from cement with combination of FA and RHA at different proportions on the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, flexural strength. The replacement of cement were done at three levels is 10 , 20 and 30 with both Fly ash and Rice husk ash as well as combination of both Fly ash and Rice husk ash. The tests on hardened concrete were destructive in nature which includes compressive test on cube for size 150 x 150 x 150 mm at 7 and 28 days of curing as per IS 516 1959, Flexural strength on beam 150 x 150 x700 mm at 28 days of curing as per IS 516 1959. The samples were prepared with different water cement ratio as 0.30, 0.35 and 0.40 for flexure design i.e. 5.5 MPa, 5.0 MPa and 4.5 MPa respectively. The result so obtained showed that it is possible to achieve saving in cement if replacement is done. The study proves to be beneficial in area where traffic load is less, also will use wastage released from thermal plants and rice mills also reduces economy as this materials is easily available. The waste material from industries is in bulk amount, as lesser amount of these used as supplementary cementing materials so these can be used as filling soil in subgrade of highway pavement. This paper reports an experimental investigation on the development of Gap graded concrete providing the optimal combination of strength and water permeability using M sand and admixtures. In this study, the Gap graded concrete is obtained by removing the fine aggregate wholly 0 , 5 , 10 and 15 of replacing coarse aggregate with M sand. The titanium dioxide is used as partial replacement to cement to study its behavior on mechanical properties of Gap graded concrete. A Review on use of Waste Tyre in Cement Concrete Pavement by Replacing Coarse Aggregates

One of the primary construction material that is used worldwide is concrete. For the development trading the most important materials that are used are aggregates and cement, these materials makes the primary and significant constituents for the production of concrete. As for concrete production the natural materials are being used in a greater demand. In a similar context that is required for natural resources utilization has been emerged as an increasing issue for protecting the environment as well as requirement for preserving the natural resources like aggregates that are being exploited through several materials that were actually recycled by the area unit. In this analysis, the study focuses on the replacing the coarse aggregate partially with recycled rubber tyre employment in the construction of concrete along with use of waste tyre that were obtained regionally. The initial sections of this particular study has discussed the background of the study along with the matter extent. The literature review section provides the review or discussion of the various relevant literatures that were performed for in the earlier times in this particular subject area. In this study, various tests were applied on the raw materials to investigate their suitableness and properties for this experimentation study. Three concrete grades that is M15, M20 and M25 are combined to prepare the concrete styles area units. To prepare the specimen, the coarse aggregates is used with different proportion replacement of 10, 25, and 50 for exploiting the mixture of rubber. Furthermore, to perform a comparative analysis, a bearing is developed without any coarse mixture replacement. The samples that were prepared includes beams, cylinders and cubes. After that these concrete samples were tested in the laboratory. The various tests that were performed are as flexural strength, impact resistance, lastingness, compressive strength, unit weight, and slump tests. These laboratory tests that were performed on the specimen were primarily supported by the information assortment. Results of these tests were then compared with the various concrete properties and it was observed that the concrete's compressive strength is decreased due to the presence of rubber aggregates. Although, due to this reason there are chances that it cannot be used in some structural applications. Also, along with the decreased compressive strength it has some important characteristics such as increased flexural strength, increased plasticity, higher impact resistance, and lower density. It is shown from the results that recycled rubber tyres can be used in the construction of concrete as coarse aggregates partial replacement. Due to the fascinating rubber aggregates area unit, the replacement proportion should be kept at normal amount as well as applications should be limited for specific cases where it is required to improve the properties. Experimental Investigation of Properties of Concrete with Partial Replacement of Aggregates with Industrial and Construc

Natural resources are depleting worldwide while at the same time the generated wastes from the industry are increasing substantially. The sustainable development for construction involves the use of nonconventional and innovative materials, and recycling of waste materials in order to compensate the lack of natural resources and to find alternative ways conserving the environment. So, this paper presents the results of an experimental investigation carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties of concrete mixtures in which fine aggregate sand was replaced with Copper Slag CS while coarse aggregates was replaced by recycled concrete aggregate RCA from demolished structure. Both the fine and coarse aggregate were replaced with percentages 0 for the control mixture , 10 , 20 , 30 , of Copper Slag by weight. Tests were performed for properties of fresh concrete and hardened Concrete. Slump test was conducted to determine the workability of the various design concrete mix. Compressive strength and split tensile strength were determined at 7, 28 days of curing. The results indicate that workability decreases slightly with increase in Copper Slag percentage, though workability for the sample were within the prescribed limit for M25 concrete. Test results indicate significant improvement in the strength properties of plain concrete by the inclusion of CS alone while a reverse trend in observed for increasing percentage of RCA in the sample. The synergistic effect of CS and RCA on the designed sample concrete revealed that the percentage of CS is the more decisive factors than the percentage of RCA in deciding the performance of the concrete in terms of compressive and tensile strength. The outcomes of this research work showed that Copper slag and recycled concrete aggregate can be effectively used in structural concrete as a replacement of fine aggregate sand and coarse aggregate respectively. Futher, it substantiate towards sustainable construction approach because of its dual advantage of controlling menace of solid waste disposal along with its subsequent environmental pollution and increasing the cost efficiency and carbon efficiency of the product.
