  1. Vacuum Cleaner Presented by: Vinit Patel Alex Valdez

  2. Major Physics behind the vacuum cleaner • Bernoulli Effect • Venturi Effect

  3. Definitions • Vacuum - A space in which the pressure is significantly lower than atmospheric pressure. • Air Pressure - Pressure exerted by the weight of air on an object in that air.

  4. What Happens • The fan decreases the pressure inside the hose of the vacuum, so air accelerates toward the inlet. • It also changes the potential energy of the air to kinetic energy.

  5. The Physics • Bernoulli’s Principle – States that in fluid flow, an increase in velocity occurs simultaneously with decrease in pressure.

  6. The Physics • Venturi Effect – it’s a special case of Bernoulli’s principle, in the case of air flow through a tube or pipe with a constriction in it. The air must speed up in the restriction, reducing its pressure and producing a partial vacuum via the Bernoulli effect.

  7. Larger vs. Smaller Inlet
