PEPPERMINT A POWER POINT PRESENTATION ON B . NAGA SAI VISWAS DONE BY DONE BY X A ROLL NO:6
INTRODUCTION ABOUT PEPPERMINT
Peppermint biologically known as Mentha × piperita, is a hybrid mint. It is a cross between water mint and spearmint. The plant, indigenous to Europe and the Middle East, is now widespread in cultivation in many regions of the world. It is found wild occasionally with its parent species.
ORIGIN OF PEPPERMINT EUROPE TO REST OF THE WORLD
Peppermint was first described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus from specimens that had been collected in England; he treated it as a species, but it is now universally agreed to be a hybrid. It is a herbaceous perennial plant growing to 30–90 cm tall, with smooth stems, square in cross section. The rhizomes are wide-spreading, fleshy, and bare fibrous roots.
The leaves are from 4–9 cm long and 2–4 cm broad, dark green with reddish veins, and with an acute apex and coarsely toothed margins. The leaves and stems are usually slightly fuzzy. The flowers are purple, 6–8 mm long, with a four-lobed corolla about 5 mm diameter; they are produced in whorls around the stem, forming thick, blunt spikes. Flowering is from mid to late summer.

peppermint as CANDY
A mint is a food item characterized by the presence of mint flavoring or real mint oil, whether it be peppermint oil, spearmint oil, or another natural or artificial source; the sweets are often referred to as "peppermints." They are usually used to freshen breath. It is possible to obtain these sweets in a sugar-free version. Wintergreen and other oils or flavors are also frequently used in mints; however, these are not of the mint (Mentha) family or botanical group.
After-dinner mints are popular not only because of the flavor, but because peppermint consumed after a meal can reduce gas and help with digestion. The cooling menthol in peppermint oil stimulates the stomach lining and eases stomach pain, so sucking peppermint candy may calm your upset stomach.. Candy made from peppermint oil is sometimes used to treat sea- and motion sickness, as it can numb the stomach wall and alleviate nausea and vomiting.
