  2. Water Softening Overview Source water often cannot be used in industrial processes without being softened first. The process of softening includes: • Removing dissolved contaminants, such as: • Calcium Carbonate • Magnesium Carbonate

  3. How the Softening Process Works • Calcium, magnesium and other dissolved solids are filtered out of the water • Resin beds are rinsed with sodium-rich water in order to regenerate the beds 1 2 3 4 • Softened water flows out of the resin bed • Source water flows over a porous resin bed
