  2. Hypothyroidism Hypothyroidism (under activity of the thyroid gland) occurs when the thyroid gland produces less than the normal amount of thyroid hormone and the result is a “slowing down” of many bodily functions. Although hypothyroidism may be temporary, it usually is a permanent condition. Of the nearly 30 million people suffering from a thyroid condition, most have hypothyroidism.

  3. Features of Hypothyroidism In its earliest stage, hypothyroidism may cause few symptoms, since the body has the ability to partially compensate for a failing thyroid gland by increasing the stimulation to it, much like pressing down on the accelerator when climbing a hill to keep the car going the same speed. As thyroid hormone production decreases and the body’s metabolism slows, a variety of features may result: Postpartum Thyroiditis : Five to 10 percent of women develop mild to moderate hyperthyroidism within several months of giving birth, which typically lasts for about one to two months. Often, it is followed by several months of hypothyroidism. Eventually, most women will recover normal thyroid function. However, in some cases, the thyroid gland does not heal. Therefore, hypothyroidism becomes permanent and requires lifelong thyroid hormone replacement. This condition may occur again with subsequent pregnancies.

  4. Silent Thyroiditis : Transient (temporary) hyperthyroidism can be caused by silent thyroiditis, a condition which appears to be the same as postpartum thyroiditis but not related to pregnancy and is not accompanied by a painful thyroid gland. Congenital hypothyroidism : Some infants may be born with an inadequate amount of thyroid tissue Pervasive fatigue Drowsiness Forgetfulness Difficulty with learning Dry, brittle hair and nails Dry, itchy skin Puffy face Constipation Sore muscles

  5. CAUSES OF HYPOTHYROIDISM

  6. Causes of Hypothyroidism Autoimmune thyroiditis Weight gain and fluid retention Heavy and/or irregular menstrual flow Increased frequency of miscarriages Increased sensitivity to many medications or an enzyme defect that does not allow normal thyroid hormone production. If this condition is not treated promptly, physical stunting and/or mental damage (cretinism) may develop. Central hypothyroidism : Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is produced by the pituitary gland, located behind the nose at the base of the brain. Disease of the pituitary gland may cause damage to the cells that secrete TSH, which is required for the thyroid gland to produce normal amounts of thyroid hormone. This is not a typical cause of hypothyroidism.

  7. Diagnosing Hyothyroidism

  8. Diagnosing Hypothyroidism Characteristic symptoms and physical signs of hyperthyroidism can be detected by a physician. In addition, tests can be used to confirm the diagnosis and to determine the cause. Blood Test: To measure the level of Thyroxin and TSH level. Radioactive Iodine Uptake (RAIU): A measurement of how much iodine the thyroid gland can collect. Thyroid Scan: A thyroid scan shows how the iodine is distributed throughout the thyroid gland. This information can be useful in determining the cause of hyperthyroidism and ultimately its treatment.

  9. Homeopathy Treatment For Hypothyroidism

  10. Homeopathy Treatment For Hypothyroidism Homeopathic medicines for Hypothyroid act on the body at the level of immunity and restore the deviated function. They also help to control the symptoms of Hypothyroid without any side effects. The treatment for Hypothyroid also helps in overcoming complications of under active thyroid, thus helping in illnesses like chronic fatigue, infertility and obesity. The Homeopathic medicines for Hypothyroid have to be specific to every individual person. That is the reason a detailed history is required to customize the treatment for Hypothyroid. The Homeopathic treatment for under active thyroid is chalked out after a detailed analysis and review of your past treatments for psoriasis and medicines for psoriasis taken by you.
