  1. Which events helped to influence the American Independence Movement? The Road to Independence, Part I If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention!

  2. I. King George III A. Proclamation of 1763 (see map pg. 38) 1. No settlement west of Appalachians a. Defending colonists from Native Americans = too expensive! b. Overcrowded colonists upset that British didn’t act in their interest

  3. 1. Tax on documents & printed items (wills, newspapers, etc.) 2. Unifying: Effected all types of ppl in colonies 3. Real Issue: Parliament shouldn’t be able to impose taxes on the Colonists who weren’t represented a. “No taxation without representation!” 4. “Sons of Liberty” Organizes boycott of Brit. goods  Parliament repeals Stamp Act 03/1766 II. Tea Party:150 rebels dressed as Mohawk Indians dumped Brit. East India Co. tea into Boston Harbor 1. 18,000 pounds of tea!

  8. V. Intolerable/ Coercive Acts, 1774 A. Shut down Boston Harbor B. Forced colonists to house British soldiers C. Gov’r of Mass. imposes martial law 1. Reduced civil rights & right of self-government Something must be done!
