  3. Believed that all revolutions fail because those who attain power are corrupted by it • Saw nature as the only truly “Utopian State” possible • Felt 20th Century man’s move away from land and nature was a mistake

  4. Orwell’s Purpose in writing Animal Farm: • WARN the world about the dangers of Totalitarianism • SATIRIZE the mentality of the revolutionary who believes Utopia is possible

  5. Orwell’s Thesis: • Power inevitably corrupts, and therefore revolutions inevitably fail their purpose • New masters are necessarily corrupted by new power • ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY!
