  2. What is Adderall? • Adderall is a brand name amphetamine used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It works directly on the pleasure center of the brain and is highly addictive on both a physical and emotional or psychological level. It increases energy, alertness and concentration.

  3. How does Adderall affect the nervous system? • Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. • Increases the flow of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine, chemicals that carry the signal between neurons. This can result in an increase in a person’s ability to focus over extended periods of time.

  4. Disease of Adderall Addiction: • Overdosing on Adderall can cause: hyperactivity, fast breathing, confusion, fever, muscle pains, shakiness, aggressiveness, and hallucinations. • As a central nervous system stimulant, Adderall stimulates the brain’s production of norepinephrine and dopamine. Norepinephrine is a hormone that gives the body sudden energy in times of stress. It is also a neurotransmitter that passes nerve impulses in the brain. Dopamine is also both a hormone and neurotransmitter that affects brain processes that control movement, emotional response and the ability to experience pleasure and pain.

  5. Adderall Addicts: • Adderall addicts may have suffered permanent physical neurological changes in their brains and nervous systems. Because the neurotransmitters in the brain have been altered, the result is an increase of physical dependence on the drug. If physical dependence was the only factor in this disease, then withdrawal from the drug would be sufficient to release a person from Adderall addiction. However with the high incidence of relapse, the powerful draw of cravings and the insidious nature of triggers, it is clear that physical dependence is actually only a small part of addiction.
