  2. Background Dementia is of global concern affecting around 30 million people worldwide and this is set to increase to more than 100 million by 2050. If longevity is the legacy of the 20th century then living longer while enjoying quality of life will be the challenge for the 21st century.

  3. Background Singapore Number of people with dementia is estimated 25,000 and is estimated to increase 8.5 times to 187,000 by 2050 Northern Ireland Currently there are 16,000 people with dementia and this is projected to rise by more than 25% in the next 10 years

  4. Aim / Purpose • The purpose of this study is to compare the dementia services between Singapore and Northern Ireland.

  5. Methods • This study was supported through a grant from the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) • This is the culmination of an 8 week placement

  15. Conclusion • There are telling differences in dementia care between Singapore and Northern Ireland. • Key differences lie in • Care approach (drug versus non-drug) • Level of community support • Funding mechanisms

  16. The importance of education in the use of non-pharmacological approaches to facilitate delivery of high quality person centered dementia care has important implication for practice in Singapore.
