Analysis of SCUSS Field Counts and Galactic Structures in the 2012 Catalog

This project investigates the number counts within 1590 fields of the SCUSS catalog, each covering 1 deg x 1 deg, encompassing a total of 35,646,832 counts. Utilizing DAO and Bertin photometry alongside SDSS matching, we analyze completeness and compare Galactic extinction using the SFD map. Tools like 'read_cat.pro' in IDL are employed for data handling. Various aspects such as exposure times, brightness of nearby galaxies, and statistics on completeness and artificial sources are considered to ensure robust results in the study of Galactic structures.

  1. Shen Shiyin SCUSS number counts

  2. 2012 catalog • 1590 fields, each field 1 deg x 1 deg • 35,646,832 number counts • Field catalog file • 22 columns • DAO photometry, Bertin photometry, SDSS match • Tool: read_cat.pro • IDL>data=read_cat('a1008.cat') • IDL>help,data,/str • Suggestion: use value instead of blank in catalog file

  3. Number counts • Analysis the completeness of SCUSS fields • star: galactic structure (how to?) • galaxy: Galactic extinction compare with SFD map • Au=5.15E(B-V)

  4. Field number counts plot Field number counts plot • Example: a1008.cat Increasing Galactic extinction galaxy: Euclidean geometrydlogN/dlogS=1.5

  5. Galactic extinction: very preliminary results SFD map Au=5.15*E(B-V)

  6. To do • Different exposure time of different fields • Exposure time map • Bright star, very nearby galaxy • Mask map? Eyeball check?

  7. Other issues • Completeness analysis • Statistics • Fake source • Galactic structure
