  7. Vodka Soaked TamponsWhat is it? • The practice of soaking a tampon in vodka and then inserting it into the vagina (or into the rectum for males)

  8. What it does • A tampon can hold about one shot of vodka, and the liquor is rapidly absorbed into the system, providing a stronger, faster intoxication than drinking a shot.

  9. The Dangers • “If a person does pass out or lose consciousness, health care professionals won’t necessarily know that they have to look in those areas [vagina, rectum] and that may delay treatment.” • Alcohol poisoning can cause serious damage to the liver, brain, and heart, as well as quickly cause death.

  10. STATISTICS • One third of suicides are alcohol related, and 25% of all emergency room admissions are in some way related to alcohol use. • Indeed, 40% of those who start drinking prior to the age of 13 end up being dependent on alcohol. • Alcohol increases by three times the chance that a nighttime crash will be fatal in the age group 15 - 20. • 67% of eighth graders and 83% of tenth graders say that they can easily get alcohol. • Nearly 25% of ninth graders have been on drinking binge in the last month. • Alcohol is the most prominent substance used by teenagers. More teenagers have had alcohol than have tried cigarettes and marijuana combined.
