  4. Examples of How to use Access • CAREER RESEARCH—THE JOBS YOU LIKE • COLLECTION OF RECIPES ---ALL IN ONE OR • COLLECTION OF RECIPES –SPECIFIC TO CHOCOLATE • COLLECTION OF CD’S • ALL YOUR RELATIVES NAMES, ADDRESSES, BIRTHDAYS, ETC. • SKYWARD IS A DATABASE • GOOGLE IS A DATABASE

  5. What does access allow you to do? • TO STORE INFORMATION • FIND INFORMATION • ANALYZE THE INFO AND YOU CAN PRINT IT OUT • ALSO SHARE IT… • MANAGE INFORMATION • MANIPULATE/CHANGE/MODIFY

  6. What are some of the characteristics/attributes of access? • THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF OBJECTS/TOOLS • WITHIN THE SOFTWARE: • YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE ALL OF THEM……. • THE MAIN ONE THAT YOU MUST USE IS CALLED A TABLE. • TABLE = HEART & SOUL OF A DATABASE • NO TABLE = NO DATABASE

  7. continued • WHAT DOES THE TABLE DO? • STORES THE DATA (INFORMATION) • IT PUTS THE DATA IN COLUMNS AND ROWS • COLUMN IS CONSIDERED IN A DATABASE TO BE A FIELD (UNIT OF INFO) • ROWS ARE THE VARIABLES THAT CHANGE WITH EACH ENTRY…….(records) • ALL THE OTHER OBJECTS ARE THE TOOLS YOU USE TO ANALYZE, MANIPULATE, AND STORE THE DATA. • Such as: • Reports • Forms • Queries • Filters
