  3. What is the Wee Read Program… • Designed for babies or toddlers, accompanied by a parent. • An environment that nurtures and stimulates children in different ways. • Will help with language acquisition and pre-literacy skills.

  4. Explore Reading Time • The first 10 minutes of every lesson the children get the chance to explore all different types of books. • Usually the UTA volunteers sit around the carpet area and read a few books to the children.

  5. Sing, Sing along… • We always sing the “Good Morning/Buenos Dias” song. • I usually lead this song with the help of “Lola” our special puppet friend. • The children are fascinated with “Lola".

  6. More Singing • We also sing others song related to the theme for the lesson of the day. • Singing helps the children with rhythm and repetition. • We let the children use musical instrument to go along with the rhythm of the songs.

  7. Story Time • At story time, we try to read 2 books related to the theme. • When Liliana and I led our lesson we read “Old MacDonald's had a Farm” and “Touch and Feel Farm Animals”

  8. Crafts • The parent and child get to create a craft related to the theme of the lesson. • One of the crafts we did was to make farm animal puppets. • The parent does most of the work, but the child gets to help.

  9. FunTime • Fun time consist of the children playing with educational toys. • Mrs. Matsumoto, our mentor, received a grant from Lakeshore and was able to fill the room with great toys.

  10. Play & Play • The toys used in the program were all educational. • We had math, science and reading. • These toys helped the children with their motor skills.

  11. Overall • I enjoyed going to the Wee Read Program on Tuesdays. • I became attached to all the children and their parents. • I learned so much from Mrs. Matsumoto, she is a great mentor. • This program made me more confident in speaking and interacting with children. • It reassured me that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life!!!
