Tough times will come and hardships cause many to quit. So, when you are looking at a select it with both your head and your heart. If your heart is not engaged, don’t do it. 2. Does this fill a real need or solve a recognized problem? I love good drinking water and grew up in the country enjoying spring-fed water. The first time I saw bottled water I was amazed to think that someone would pay for water. But today filtered water is all I will drink. Someone saw a real need and provided a solution. 3. Is this a whole new concept? OR … Does this known concept, bring a new twist? Most successful businesses have not created a new industries or even new concepts, they have simply re-imagined, and re-packaged what was already there. Hamburgers weren’t new when McDonalds came along. Fried Chicken wasn’t new when the Colonel came along. 4. Does it appeal to a specific demographic? If the business targets a niche market and that niche market is not in your service area then, no matter how amazing it is, it will fail. You don’t sell birthday cakes in funeral homes. Make sure your area demographic matches your business demographic. 5. Will the ROI be strong enough from year one? Many businesses do not break even in their first year, which is why many don’t make it past year two. Count the cost before proceeding and if it is going to take too long, for you, then don’t start— unless you can start part-time (see #9).     6. Do you have enough capital? This may sound too obvious but when I was a Business Broker I saw more than one individual buy a business only to have it fail in less than a year. Look beyond just the price of the business opportunity purchase and carefully consider your entire budget. 7. How much competition is there for this service/product in my area? There are many reasons why businesses fail but one sure way to fail is to open a business that is already over populated. Choose a business with little or no competition in the area you plan to work. 8. Do others think this is a winner? Get input from insightful business associates. People who will tell you the truth, whether you want to hear it or not. Clikker.co “Where Local Advertising Pays” http://Clikker.co |+1 888-506-7283

If you do not have the long-term capital necessary to leave your current job and devote your full time to a new business venture then find a business that can be built on a part-time basis, until it’s income replaces your current income. Great business opportunities can be found. I know, I just found an amazing one. It is allowing me to earn $500 to $10,000 a month, replace my current income, fire my boss and live the only life I have doing what matters most. I’d be happy to share with you if you write me. ~ Dave Wicks Dave is an Entrepreneur, Professional Speaker, Writer, former Business Broker and former Pastor.
