  1. How do we critically view images? • 1st step – observe – column one • Zoom - in • Quadrants • Ask what is shown in the image and what is not shown in the image • Look at the scale of the objects and the colors • 2nd step – make inferences • What do these choices tell suggest to you? • 3rdstep – make a connection • Connect this image to one of the “big” ideas in Night • You may use one of the big ideas listed or your could create your own

  2. First Step I observe large green trees in the front of the image. There is a clump of trees on the left and a clump of trees on the right. The trees seem to be connected at the bottom of their trunks. There are many shadows. Between the trees, in the center of the image there are more green trees. Far in the distance is a beautiful body of water With islands and more land beyond it. The water seems calm. The trees in the front seem to be on the top of a hill with the woods sloping down until they meet the water.

  3. Second Step I observe large green trees in the front of the image. • This image seems to be a happy one. The trees seem to be stronger because they are standing together. The sky is blue so the image seems optimistic and hopeful. Even though the water is way in the distance, it seems like it would be possible to walk there and achieve the journey.

  4. Third Step - connection • I have decided to connect this image to American History. The two sets of trees seem to represent Elana and Eugene. The trees are similar just like Elana and Eugene. The trees are connected to other trees through their trunks and roots, just like how Elana and Eugene are connected to their families and culture. Although they are separated….as the trees are….the future, represented by the water, seems to be a positive and bright one.
