  4. Three important information about the Hadith

  5. 1. It is not possible to follow Islam fully without the Hadith

  6. 2. If any person denies a Hadith, while being fully aware of its authenticity, he will be considered as a Kafir (non-believer).

  7. Acceptance of false statements as the Hadith of Prophet (S)- • has caused the greatest damage to the Muslim Ummah in the past • is still doing so at present and • will continue to do so in the future, if the Muslim society fails to take appropriate measures.

  8. Understanding about the meaning of sahih Hadith by most of the present day Muslims

  9. Most of the Muslims of the world know that sahih Hadith is a Hadith whose text is error-free (flawless).

  10. But this is not correct according to the Hadith literature.

  11. Definition of the term Hadith according to the Qur’an

  12. Fact-1

Meaning: Does this statement (الْحَدِيْثِ) not prove that your propaganda is wrong? (Wakia/56 : 81)

  14. Explanation: Here the term ‘Hadith’ is used to mean Allah’s statement.

  15. Fact-2

… Meaning: When the Prophet (S) disclosed a matter (حَدِيثًا) in confidence to one of his wives … … (Tahrim/66 : 3)

  17. Explanation: Here the term ‘Hadith’ is used to mean the Prophet’s statement (in confidence) .

  18. Fact-3

  19. … … … … … … Meaning: … … … But when they meet each other in private, they say: "Shall you say (أَتُحَدِّثُونَهُمْ) to them what Allah has revealed to you … … … (Bakara/2 : 76)

  20. Explanation: Here the term ‘Hadith’ is used to refer to one’s statement.

  21. Fact-4

  22. وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ Meaning: Has the story (حَدِيثُ) of Moses reached You? (Taaha/20 : 9)

  23. Explanation: Here the term ‘Hadith’ is used to mean stories or news.

  24. Fact-5

Meaning: "Oh my Lord! You have bestowed on me some power, and taught me something of the interpretation of dreams (الْأَحَادِيثِ), (Yusuf/12 : 101)

  26. Explanation: Here the term ‘Hadith’ is used to refer to dreams.

  27. So in the Holy Qur’an, ‘Hadith’ is used to refer to the Statement of Allah (SWT), the Prophet (S) or any person, as well as dreams, news, stories etc.

  28. In the Holy Qur’an the statements of Allah (SWT) is quoted without any change in letters, words, stops, semi clone etc. That is, in 100% original and perfect form.

  29. So according to the Holy Qur’an, when the term ‘Hadith’ is to be used to mean the statement of the Prophet (s), it must be quoted without any changes to the words, letters, commas, periods, etc. That is, with 100% perfection.

  30. Definition of Hadith according to Present Hadith Literature

  31. The statements that are one’s own understanding and expression of the statements of the Prophet (S) quoted in one’s own words or in the words of the Prophet (S) by up to four tiers of people (Sahabi, Tabee, TabeTabee, TabeTabeTabee) who claimed themselves as Mu’min, are called Hadith.

  32. For practical reasons, Hadith that are identical to the Prophet’s letters, words, stops, semi clone ect. are only a handful in number.

  33. This definition is not present in Hadith literature as such. But this can be understood easily by the facts present in the books of Hadith.

  34. Weakness of this definition

  35. A person claiming himself a Mu’min could be a Munafiq and can narrate false Hadith • There could be unwilling mistake in one’s understanding of other people’s statements • There could be unwilling mistake in one’s presentation of other people’s statements

  36. Prophet’s (S) permission for expressing His Hadith by one’s own words

  37. Abdullah bin Sulaiman stated to Tabarani through MarfuHadith that he asked the Prophet (S), “O Prophet (S)! I hear Hadith from you, but I can not express that in exactly the same form. Rather it become changed in letters (words).”

  38. Prophet (S) replied, “If you do not say Haram as Halal or Halal as Haram and are able to correctly comprehend the meaning of my statement, then there is no harm in that.”

  39. After that when the subject was placed before Hassan Basri (Rah), he said, “If there was no such permission then I would not utter any Hadith.” Book of explanation of Abu Daud Sharif, page no. 26)

  40. Result of the weakness in the definition of Hadith and the work done to correct it

  41. 1. A lot of Hadith created intentionally by Munafiqs and unintentionally by the believers, spread throughout the Muslim society.

  42. 2. To save the Muslim nation from the harm of these false Hadith, scholars did two things. These are-

  43. a. Compilation of ‘AsmaurRezal’ (a compilation of the bio-data of the Hadith narrators) in 300 Hijri.

  44. b. Selection and listing of ‘SahiHadith’ from the pool of sayings being propagated in the society as the Prophet’s (S) Hadith.

  45. Definition of sahih Hadith as mentioned in different Books of Hadith

  46. Bukhari and Muslim

  48. Meaning: The Hadith whose chain of narration extends to the Prophet (S) himself, narrated by people who are honest and possess good memory, and which is not ‘Shaz’ or ‘Illat’ is called Sahih Hadith. (Preface of Bukhari and Muslim page no. 10 and 16)
