  1. Science Vocabulary Bingo

  2. Descriptive research • Research based on observations

  3. Experimental research • Investigations or research involving variables

  4. Data • Observations collected during investigations

  5. Liter • Unit used for measuring volume

  6. Observation • Made by using 5 senses

  7. Energy • The ability to do work or cause change

  8. Model • Used to represent things that are too big, too small, too expensive, or too dangerous • Have limitations • The act of representing something • A simulation

  9. Hypothesis • An educated guess about the outcome of an experiment

  10. Independent variable • What is changed or tested by the scientist • May cause a change

  11. Y-axis • The side axis on a graph • Where the dependent variable is plotted

  12. Variable • A factor that can change during an experiment

  13. Mass • A measure of the amount of matter in an object

  14. Represent • To symbolize • To stand for

  15. Controlled variables (constants) • Variables that are not allowed to change during an experiment

  16. x-axis • The bottom axis on a graph • Where the independent variable is plotted

  17. Newtons • The unit of measurement for force

  18. Heat A form of energy that is transferred by a difference in temperature

  19. Density • The relationship of mass and volume

  20. Inference • An assumption made about observations

  21. Temperature • A measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a sample of matter • A measure of heat

  22. Science A way of learning more about the natural world that provides possible explanations to questions and involves using a collection of skills. Science helps us answer questions and solve problems. Science is the process of trying to understand the world.

  23. Dependent variable • The data or observation in an experiment • What is measured and observed • Caused by a change in the independent variable

  24. Bar graph • Used to display comparisons in data

  25. Conduction • The movement of heat through an object

  26. Meter • Used to measure distance or length

  27. Test tube

  28. Frequency • How many times something happens

  29. Flammable • Ability to burn

  30. Volume • How much space an object takes up • How much an object can hold

  31. Manipulate • To change • To control

  32. Line graph • Used to display changes in data

  33. Rate • The speed of something

  34. Interpret • To make sense of • To understand • To figure out • Present the subject in understandable terms

  35. convection • The movement of heat through a substance. • The substances rises as it heats up, then sinks as it cools off

  36. Beaker

  37. Illustrate • The skill of giving examples to describe something • Using examples to help explain your answer

  38. Classify Arrange or order by characteristics or properties

  39. Force • A push or pull • Causes changes in motion or shape

  40. Transform • To change or convert

  41. Gram • Unit for measuring mass

  42. Conserve • To save • To keep

  43. Contrast • Show how the facts or ideas are different

  44. Control group • Experimental group that has nothing done to it • Used as a comparison

  45. Graduated cylinder

  46. Balance • What is left over

  47. Initial • The beginning • The start of something

  48. Accurate Having very small error of any kind

  49. Relate • Show connections • Associate

  50. Compare Show how the facts or ideas are similar
