  4. Running head: EXAMPLE 1 Title Author(s) Affiliation(s) Title Page • Title • should state the main topic of the paper • about 10-12 words • Running head • Abbreviated title • No longer than 50 characters

  5. Abstract • Summarizes the study in 120 words or less • Includes a sentence or 2 on the 4 major sections of your article: 1. Introduction • Problem under investigation 2. Method • Participants used in study • Primary variables • Research procedures 3. Results • Primary findings 4. Discussion • Conclusions or implications of the study

  6. Introduction • Includes: • Purpose of study and importance of research • Review existing literature with citations • Clearly state the research question or hypothesis *Written in the past tense

  7. Method 3 Sections • Participants • i.e. number, sex, & age • Materials • Procedure Goal for this section: • Detailed enough so that someone can replicate the experiment

  8. Results • Describe how data was analyzed • Include all relevant results, not just those that support the hypothesis

  9. Discussion • Interpret, evaluate, and discuss your findings • Includes: • Major contributions of this research • Integrate previous research with citations • Alternative explanations • Possible limitations

  10. References • All references cited within the text must appear in this section
