1. Motivation A Necessity in the Life of a Christian

2. Study • God has commanded us to study • 2 Tim 2:15 - “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” • 1 Tim 4:13 - “Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.” • 2 Peter 3:18a - “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

3. Study • We are able to understand • 2 Cor. 1:13 – “For we are not writing any other things to you than what you read or understand.” • Eph 3:3-4 – “How that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)”

4. Study • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 • Doctrine – Titus 2:7-8 “In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.” • Reproof –1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”

5. Study • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Cont. • Correction – James 5:19-20 “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.” Gal. 6:1 “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.”

6. Study • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Cont. • Instruction in Righteousness – Pro. 21:21 “He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honor.” Titus 2:11-12 “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.”

7. Teach • All mankind needs saved from sin • Rom 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” • Rom 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Teach • Christ died for all mankind • Rom. 5:18 – “Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.” • 1 Tim 2:5-6 – “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” • Rom. 5:6 – “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly”

9. Teach • Understand power of God’s word • Romans 1:16 – “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” • 1 Corinthians 3:5-7 – “Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.”

10. Teach • Understand fate of the sinner • 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 – “And to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

11. Do God’s Commandments • Our love for God • John 14:15 – “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” • 1 John 5:3 – “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.”

12. Do God’s Commandments • Our duty as children of God • Luke 17:10 – “So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’” • Romans 12:1 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Participate in Acts of Worship • 5 Acts of worship • 1 Cor. 14:40 - “Let all things be done decently and in order.” • Lord’s Supper – 1 Cor. 11:23-26, Acts 20:7 • Giving – 1 Cor. 16:1-2, 2 Cor. 9:7 • Singing – Eph. 5:19, Col 3:16 • Prayer – Acts 1:13-14, James 5:16 • Preaching/Teaching – Rom 10:13-14, 2 Tim. 4:2

15. Participate in Acts of Worship • Question?? • How many of these talents do you have or you can grow to have? • Matt 25:14-30 – Parable of the talents • The one talent servant was punished for his laziness • The two talent and five talent servants were blessed

16. Obey the Gospel • Being religious is not enough • Matt. 7:21 – “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” • Hear – Romans 10:17 • Believe – John 3:18 • Repent – Acts 17:30-31 • Confess – Romans 10:9 • Baptized – Mark 16:16

17. Obey the Gospel • Must live faithfully – Rev. 2:10 • You can reject God’s word • John 12:48 – “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him – the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.” • All will be judged • 2 Cor. 5:10.- “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

18. Reward • Heaven is the reward for the faithfully • Rom. 8:18 – “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” • Rev. 21:4 – “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away”
