Definition: • Any illness (toxic hazards) resulting from the consumption of food. Dr. Abdel MOniem GM

Diagnosis: Diagnosis of food poisoning is aclinical one: • History(in tables). • Physical findings:(Neurological manifestations, Anticholinergics, Muscle weakness). • Laboratory investigations: • Stool cultures. • Electrolyte abnormalities. Dr. Abdel MOniem GM
Differential diagnosis: • Three life-threatening conditions : • Carbon monoxide poisoning. • Acute myocardial infarction. • Acute surgical abdomen. • Other toxic conditions with prominent GIT manifestations: (heavy metals, Organophosphates/carbamates, Digoxin, Salicylates, Theophylline, Laxatives). Treatment: عامة • ABC. • Electrolyte and fluidimbalances. • Antibiotictherapy (invasive organisms). • Symptomatic ttt(Antiemetics & antispasmotics). • Gastric decontaminationwith activated charcoal (without a cathartic if diarrhea is present) in cases in which aneurotoxinhas been ingested recently. Fish poisoning: • Ciguatera: • Numbness or tingling around the mouth, feeling of loose teeth. • Impaired touch sensation of hot as cold and cold as hot, itching, muscle and joint pain, slow heart rate, low blood pressure. 2. Shellfish: • Numbness or tingling around the mouth or in the arms and legs, • Trouble swallowing, difficulty speaking. Dr. Abdel MOniem GM
