Path of a Bill • A Senator /Representative thinks of a bill • That person shares the new bill • Bill goes to the community for changes • The edited bill is shared • The bill is then debated on the floor • The people vote on the bill • If the bill fails, the bill is dead • If the bill passes, the House of Representatives votes on the bill • If bill passes the House, then it goes to the Governor • The Governor then decides whether to approve or veto the bill

  3. Louisiana’s Legislative Branch • Senators and the House of Representatives make up this branch • Senators and legislators: • Are elected by the people • Serve four year terms • Introduce bills that become laws • Decide how tax payers money will be spent

  4. Louisiana’s Executive Branch • Governor is leader of this branch • Governor enforces the laws • Other members of this branch include: • Lieutenant Governor • State Treasurer • Secretary of State • Attorney General

  5. Louisiana’s Judicial Branch • This branch includes judges and courts • Led by Louisiana Supreme Court located in New Orleans • Judges on this court: • Are elected to serve • Serve ten years • Make decisions about disagreements about laws
