  7. Exchange Programs are offered by XU’s Center for International Education. Exchange programs allow students to study at a university with which XU has a special agreement. Under an exchange program, students pay the equivalent of full-time XU tuition and fees and then pay housing and other costs to the host university. These programs are competitive, and are generally for a semester or an academic year.  Exchange Programs

  9. Third Party Program Providers • Third Party Study Abroad Programs are offered in the Center for International Education. These programs are coordinated and managed by outside organizations and companies. There are also programs that offer integrated classes with local students. Program costs are set by each program provider and vary with the length of program, location and cost of living.

  11. Xavier Faculty-Led Programs offer the opportunity to travel abroad with a faculty member. These programs most often run in the summer, for two to five weeks, and are led and coordinated by the faculty member in charge. Program costs may include XU tuition, a program fee, plus any associated costs. Faculty-Led Programs

Earning Credit • You will receive credit for study abroad at XU • Major, Minor, Core, Elective or even “extra” Free Electives • Your academic advisor will work with you to determine how classes taken abroad count at XU • You must be full-time, which means you earn a full semester of credits for Fall/Spring programs • Summer programs do not require full-time enrollment

Financial Aid • The program you choose determines what Financial Aid can be used for study abroad. • Student provides program costs to Financial Aid (http://www.xavier.edu/financial-aid/documents/1FinancialAidforStudyAbroad.pdf) • If cost of attendance goes up, you may qualify for additional loans or grants. Gilman Scholarship • A national scholarship promoting diversity in Study Abroad • You may be awarded up to $5000 for study abroad • Eligibility: receive a Pell Grant and program is at least one month long • Application is online, and XU study abroad staff will assist you! • http://www.iie.org/gilman Gilman International Scholarship

VA Benefits and GI Bill • Students utilizing VA Benefits and/or GI Bill funds must pay XU tuition in order to use these funds • Program options are limited to the following providers in StudioAbroad: • XU faculty-led programs • XU Solidarity Semesters • Using providers USAC and Arcadia may be possible; consult with Study Abroad before applying

Prepaid Tuition programs • Students utilizing any prepaid tuition program must pay XU tuition in order to use these funds • Program options are limited to the following providers in Studio Abroad: • XU Faculty-Led programs • XU Solidarity Semesters • Using providers USAC and Arcadia may be possible; consult with Study Abroad before applying Maastricht

Steps to Study Abroad • Complete this online information session • Complete intake form at end of session to request an appointment • Log-in to StudioAbroad to research programs • https://studioabroad.xavier.edu/ • Use your XU email and password to log-in • Meet with CIE staff to narrow your program selection • Consult Academic Advisor regarding credit and course approvals • Apply to the program • XU online via StudioAbroad*Deadlines: October 1, February 1, March 1 • Program specific application via program • Attend Pre-Departure Orientation
